Re: Carb leaking - finally me as well
I just got an idea. I am currently running the engine with an external fuel bottle, which is positioned 50cm (or 1.5 feet or 20 inches) above the position of the original tank, This causes higher fuel pressure on the valves, and might be too much. I will lower my bottle tonight and check again. I wo...

Re: Carb leaking - finally me as well
Hi, I already did the fuel tap conversion for manual shut-off. Normally with my other RD´s it is as you described, it leaks for a few moments after a longer pause but then stops. This time is does not stop, and effects different carbs each time. I will check if the float bowls get stuck when the bow...

Carb leaking - finally me as well
Hi, I was often following threads of others about leaking carbs even after a rebuild. Amongst my 4 RD500, it never happened to me except for short leakages after a longer pause, which stopped within a minute or so when the needle got soaked in petrol and finally closed. On my current rebuild - a 47X...

Float bowls
Hello I noticed that my float bowls are marked P1-1 and P1-2 inside, there is a left and right side version of each. I dont see any difference between the left P1-1 and the left P1-2, same for the right side. Are these just manufacturing date codes? http://www.facebook.com/messenger_media/?thread_id...

Coolant hoses routing
Hello, my 47x that I currently rebuild from grounds has a cleat hose on the back of the coolant reservoir that is connected via T-connectors. I would need close up pics of the correct routing of these hoses on the top and bottom of the coolant tank. Pictures show what I currently have but it somehow...

Re: 47x carb upgrade?
Thanks, yes I am now aware of this, I found some old posts about it. Obviously float height should also have been 24mm always, it was set to 21mm in my carbs. I will in rease Pilot air jet to #1.3 though, but still unsure about the needle valve (N-8 or keep O-0)? I guess I will do trial and error me...

47x carb upgrade?
Hi friends, I am restoring a low mileage 47x model, and I am in the final stage of assembly. I am now asking myself whether I should keep the carb setup from the 47x or „upgrade“ to 1GE jetting? The 47X is richer in mid and high end (#195 mains vs. #165 mains in 1GE, O-0 vs. N-8 needle jet, differen...

Re: front brake drag
Hi, thanks alot for the detailled feedback. Calipers are freshly rebuilt, I cleaned polished the cylinder and pistons, put all new seals in and used a very thin coat of brake caliper grease. I did find the root cause today: the calipers are not centered on the rotors, the have contact to the discs a...

Re: front brake drag
Hi, I want to jump on this old thread. I currently do a full restore on a low-mileage 47x RD500, and I disassembled also the brake calipers and gave them a good clean of bore and pistons, plus new EBC pads. After installing them back on the fork, I noticed an enormous drag. Removed the calipers, and...

Gearbox oil pump bolt
Hello,
I would need to know length and head style of bolt #28 - it is the longer one, I believe in silver, on the bottom of the gearbox pil pump cover. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Clutch friction plate
Hello Bill,
I have only rebuilt 6 or 7 engines but have not seen this either. No idea how this can happen. It must have something to do with the wire clip that was out of position ( should be in the groove). All other friction plates have 3,00 - 3,20 mm thickness

Re: Clutch friction plate
No, all parts are there. The wire clip #18 is damaged and does not sit in the groove partially. Friction plate # 20 is present as well, but all material on the backside is missing. I have already purchased a set of new EBC clutch plates and reinstalled them yesterday, without the wire #18, I hope th...
