According to the original owner, the electronics were removed and modified, don't know what was done. The whole unit was resealed, looks a little crude, but works perfectly on my test start.

I'm busy on a rebuild for a RZ500 which was standing for 19 years. I rebuilt the carbs initially and prepared the engine so I could do a preliminary start. It is the CDI and shows a repair for sure, the front side is filled with a rubberised material, I suspect the previous owner may have had it chipped? but not sure... he had Yamaha performance modify the exhausts, but have no idea what was done...
