According to the original owner, the electronics were removed and modified, don't know what was done. The whole unit was resealed, looks a little crude, but works perfectly on my test start.

Thanks for the confirmation, I'm surprised that either piston configuration works without a sacrifice of performance without the cut-outs. Unfortunately I can't upload pics here? I actually thought I had somehow mixed pistons up, but I carefully numbered the barrels and pistons, so couldn't understa...

RZ500-Strange Pistons-Help!
I'm busy on a rebuild for a RZ500 which was standing for 19 years. I rebuilt the carbs initially and prepared the engine so I could do a preliminary start. The engine started and ran well after under 10 kicks, so I began the strip and rebuild process. I didn't ride the bike, too much else still need...

Hi Paul, many thanks! I'm in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is the CDI and shows a repair for sure, the front side is filled with a rubberised material, I suspect the previous owner may have had it chipped? but not sure... he had Yamaha performance modify the exhausts, but have no idea what was done...
