Fuel petcock mod

#1 Post by Jason » Mon Jun 20, 2005 5:20 am

I'm wondering if anyone has ever done this to cure leaky petcocks.
Because the diaphragms are unavailable to rebuild these old petcocks, I was thinking of closing off the diaphragm hole inside the petcock body using a cold weld or a fuel resistant epoxy)so that the "ON" position of the petcock effectively became the new "OFF" position. I'd plug the vacuum line as well.
Then, to run the bike, just switch it to "prime".
Has anybody ever done this, or can you think of why it won't work?
Thanks!

Theres an O ring on the end of the diaphragm assembly that doesn't seat well when the vacuums off but you can push the diaphragm assembly with your thumb so the O ring goes past the seat into the bore behind sealing it off. On the other side take the cover plate and lever off, rotate them 180 and screw it back down. It will have on, off and reserve and flow more.
