Rear Master Cylinder Replacement

#1 Post by Rob » Thu Sep 08, 2005 11:25 am

In case anyone wants to try this, I just put a 98-99 rear master cylinder on my RZ and it was really easy. The mounting holes match right up - There was a little piece of the casting that was in the way since it mounts in front of the mounts instead of behind, but 30 seconds with the dremel and it bolts right up. The rod is longer on the rz to go to the pedal, but thanks to Yamaha, the end of the rod is the same, so you just peel back the dust cover and pop the circlip off the r1 master and do the same on teh RZ master, then put the RZ plunger rod on the R1 master cylinder and put the retaining clip back in and the dust boot back on. Works mint and is like brand new (and easier to get parts for). I also unbolted the piece wher the resevoir hose goes onto the master cylinder and used the rz one also - perfect fit and gives you the same angle to mount the resevoir in the same place.
And best of all they are cheap and easy to come by! (and say brembo on them, so also cool!)
Rob
