Does fattening up the rear wheel and tire count?

I've got a set Of JL's SS GP style they are all right < but I have only had stock and jolly motto's on mine so not to much to compare with , as many people have posted before there is not to much difference in all of the name brand atermarket exhaust the price is right the stainless is nice workmanship, good broad powerband on my motor at least, not near as much light switch powerband, they seem to keep the rev's going more than I want to wring its neck with all the time....for me the fitting was not as easy as the jollys and the mounting flange is kinda cheesy mined sprewed and drooled some from the flange but could just be my bodgey installation workmanship!!! overall I'm very satisfied for a pipe not built specific for my engine they are very good ....

Dear Mark
I am the exclusive Australian importer for J L Lomas pipes, and I will outline the following product details.
1. J L Lomas is the only manufacturer currently manufacturing a stainless steel exhaust for the RZ500.
2. J L Exhausts are the only aftremarket pipe that will fit under the standard bodywork of an RZ500.
If you require any further information please feel free to contact me direct.

James not trying to be argumentive but I think nikons and crawfords fit inside the bodywork as well, the jolly's do except for the upper can's the exit hole needs to be slightly enlarged,I really enjoyed my jolly's, which they had offered stainless they seemed to keep the fun going on a long time........

Nice post on pipes Rick, I agree it's a shame the RZ rear cylinders are too far back to fit pipes with less than stratospheric rpm tuning. I measured my Nikon (non GP) pipes section by section and made a diagram of them, the uppers, according to the math, tune something like 1,200 rpm or so higher than the lowers, not shutting off till 12,000 or more which is consistent with riding experience with them--they would not "shut off", it is just too high.
Since I've never seen an RG500, is there a similar problem with those bikes in fitting pipes??
--Will

The Nikkon pipes are a cross over design like stock (and my TC's) and still have trouble getting the correct tuning length to fit. Can you imagine how much effort was made to make a long enough pipe when the manufacturer doesn't even bother to cross over the head tubes, opting rather to run them straight back? The TC uppers and lowers are all matching length and peak at 11K on tuned motors, 10.5K on stock ones. As for the RG, we went with a cross over upper design for the Gamma as well, mainly to get the belly section of the pipe forward of the tire for unlimited clearance, but also to have a good midrange tune that works very well on stock and modified motors. Mufflers are flush with the tail section.
Rick

OK can't be silent any longer! Have used several sets of pipes and TC are still my pipe of choice. Have a set of unkown pipes on my one bike (it came with them on) mid section about the same O.D. as the TC's and preform pretty well also. I would tend to stray from a pipe mfg that mis match pipe length. The RZ500 has tuning probblems from the git go using two different reed configurations. Differing pipe lengths only compound this probblem. I ride my bikes on the street and would sooner be riding rather than be working on my bike. (don't get enough riding time as it is) So tend towards a mild tune on my bikes. Match and clean up ports, some filter mods to the stock air box, play with the carbs a bit. Then spend my money on better ft ends, wheels, tires, rear shock and brakes. The RZ's plenty fast enough as as stocker to get me a ticket in 2nd or 3rd gear here in S.E. Pa. We also have the Amish buggys to deal with and the horse exhaust. (thus the reason for very good brakes) Nothing like realy smokeing a turn only to find a buggy in the way. (they go like 10 MPH) Or hit their fresh exhaust in the middle of a turn. Ok back to pipes. I like to tune to get as much mid range as I can get for the street. Realy that's were you live for most of your riding, right? Just my 2 Cents.

Hello ken, just curious have you bought & ran a set of JL's on one of your RZ's, maybe I'm really ''missing the boat'' on transforming my 500 without crawfords I might have to get a set...where do you find Tom Crawfords website to have a look and check his build info and rz500 dyno'specs comparing his pipes to others, besides R.L. website ??
