Dry clutch kit Ducari based: Continued

#1 Post by geosot » Sat Feb 11, 2012 4:40 am

Due to popular demand the project will continue.

Now in strictly part exchange basis with an OEM clutch cover. I am out of covers and can't do any kits without OEM cover.

A billet cover (with higher cost) is not yet an option, but i am working on it.

Forum support is still essential for the project.

Kit includes a complete Ducati clutch (basket, hub, PP, disks, springs), longer input shaft, primary with kickstarter gear, pushrod, clutch nut, washers, everything you need for an operational clutch.

there are always options for:

1. longer 1st gear
2. hydraulic clutch bracket now with shift shaft support
3. titanium clutch nut
4. titanium clutch stepped washer
5. anodized parts (hub, pressure plate)
6. titanium bolts, nuts etc.

Lead time is 3-6 weeks from arrival of cover.

Great job !

interesting the solution of elastic cuhions between plate and drum
in my project the two parts are locked (I'm not interested about slippery unit)

but I'm asking about the need of elastic cushion
yet started my 380 cc (rz-350 based) with dry clutch conversion no cushions
and seems to be all right, but i made only few kilometers

what do you think about ?

Hi Alex,

as i said before your work is a great inspiration and motivation.

I did the hub with elastic cushions for race use. For non race use it would be an overkill.
As far as I can tell I did equal number of RZ500 cushion-less units and units with cushions; 2 of them with my cushion-less hub and 3 with my cushion equipped hub.
The same applies for the RZ350 units. I did cushion-less and with cushions (based on Ducati or TZ).
Never had a report for fast wear for the cushion-less units.

BTW some companies offer cushion-less hubs for Ducatis; i.e. for engines with high torque and hp.

In order to stay at the safe side, I insist lately on the use of cushion equipped hubs; but if owner seems to understand the possible risks of cushion-less hub, i proceed to make it cushion-less.

Some new pics of the kits. Primaries updated and some minor issues with the kits made before 2011 were resolved.

Yorgo, is mine going to be cushioned? I would like a race unit.

Alex,

you are after a lot of HP, so yours is as the one pictured with the cushioned hub.

Still waiting the cover to proceed with the welding.

George, out of interest ,do you know the width/hieght difference between a standard clutch to the TZ unit I have ? if any
Dont fancy dropping the engine etc and not be able to get fairings back on
It may well become next winters project, riding season is getting close
Also, is there a power increase due to less friction on the internal parts etc , just interested, as I like the look of the dry clutch anyway

Hi Mark,

They should be more or less the same height.

Ducati clutches are higher due to

1. the hub-pressure plate design. Design that I kept for my hubs.
2. outer protective cover.
3. more friction-steel disks.
4. Longer input shaft.

With the current prices of TZ spares I don't think that I am going to make more TZ kits :-(

Out of interest: Are you interested in the flywheel kit?

I can't improve the breed over here, and need someone to test it, ride it and race it.

Are you still manufacturing these kits.?...I have a spare clutch casing....can you tell me how much lower in height, excluding the original casing, this set-up is over the std clutch.....I am asking as I have a set of original OWF2 lower fairings that I do not want to modify, with all the original internal ducting to the clutch area, and I am trying to work out if I can fit them with your set-up...or if some-one else who has this set-up can give me a reference dimension from somewhere on the engine/casing......thanks

I'm also interested in a dry clutch for my RZ500.

Just want to finish the RZ350 dry clutch first. :smt006
