So I just picked up my first RZ500, and like most that have spent some time sitting, it needs the engine gone through. The bike is clean and straight enough that I'd like to put everything back to stock and original as I can. Most of the parts I need are available with the one glaring exception of standard bore Yamaha pistons and rings.

If anyone has a set they would be willing to let go I am your buyer.

If anyone has a line on a source they can point me towards I would very much appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks!

If the bores are ok and still on standard dimensions, can you not re-use your pistons and just re-ring it or are the pistons damaged in some way?

I recently had to put new(std) rings in mine, they had to be back ordered (via Fowlers UK) but they did turn up 10 days later.

The right rear cylinder seized up on the previous owner. The cylinder itself is most likely usable without going up a size, but the piston not so much. With 16K on them, probably wise to replace them anyways.

Hi Twidget,
Yambits do these Mitaka Pistons https://yambits.co.uk/rz500-piston-kit- ... 54689.html
I think I have a second hand rear piston if you get stuck.
Cheers Ron.

I have a complete set of very good condition OEM unmodified/stock STD size Yamaha pistons (front and back) and rings from a RZV that is showing 5k miles on the odometer, though I would recommend replacing the wrist pins and bearings (since they are still available) - I am in the process of a "complete, factory fresh" engine rebuild on this bike. PM me if interested and I can send you hi-res pictures, if that would help you reach your rebuild criteria.

Thanks everyone for all of the suggestions! I have found the full set of pistons I was looking for. Not cheap, but considering what a set of aftermarket TKRJ's cost, not that outrageous for OEM Yamaha.
