Rich's modified RD500

#1 Post by rich bullock » Wed Sep 04, 2013 8:23 pm

Finally ready for MOT. Thundercat complete front end, 600 Fazer swingarm modified by NK Racing, Nitron road shock with adjustable ride height, Thundercat rear wheel with Fazer caliper. Lomas GP S/S pipes with Ti cans, sound superb. Cut down single seat unit.

Hello Andy, Cheers. Yes the seat is a single piece unit in fibreglass and the quality is superb to the point the painter reckoned it was about the best he has seen. Have copied link in below, bought off ebay from Germany. Arrived well packed and reasonably quick delivery. Would definately recommend. Have to flex it a bit to get over the top pipes and carefully feed it into position.

Hi Rich

Thanks for the reply, Don't suppose you have any other close up shots of the seat unit fitted to your bike

Cheers

Well she passed the MOT okay and now taxed as well so ready for the road. Only had a short spin but sounds fantastic and although did not push it seems to handle fine, once have a few miles on the brand new tyres will see how she handles. The weight difference with the pipes is noticeable when riding and seems to pull a bit cleaner and earlier but takes on lovely wail as she passes the 6.5k revs mark.
Have put on some more pics.
Andy have posted a closer pic of the seat, what inparticular do you want to see or know. I have used the standard clip from the base of the original seat which clips under the frame behind the tank and fixed to the new unit with a couple of spacers, the 2 side bolt fixing positions are in the seat mould and these align nicely with the bolts in the sub frame mounting. Just made up some spacers using threaded stud jointer and fixed with a short bolt thread locked from behind and then the 2 bolts which you see are screwed into the stud jointer. Have then used a rubber block fixed to the loop over on the back of seat frame to add some support to the end of the seat unit. The seat squab is from a Suzuki rgv v22, just unbolted it from its plastic base and attached using 4 of the 6 bolts as the middle 2 foul on the rd frame rails.
If some one could please get the photos to show please do.
regards
Rich.

Hi Rich

Thanks for the extra photos, she looks good, and that tail section is what I have been looking for. Still keeps that original look.

The info you provided regarding fitting is much appreciated, if my RZ turns out as half as good as yours I will be happy

Cheers

Hi 2 smoke
no not custom painted. It is a Condor and they did them in 3 colourways, as mine and blue and a red version, bought about 2 years ago.

Hi Andy, do not think the stickers are covering scratches but do not know for sure my mate Steve owned the bike back in 85/86 and must have put them on, his brother Dave then owned it and I bought it off Dave (another good mate) about 14 years ago and have never bothered to take them off. It also had some MOTUL oil stickers on the belly which I have only just taken off. These came off real easy but the SHOEI ones are well stuck. Will have to sneak out the misses hair drier and wrm them up may come off easier then.
Rich.
