Track scooter upgrades for COTA weekend

Track day this weekend at Circuit Of The Americas with a bunch of BMW 1000 RRs. It is called BMW Double R Track Days. I do get to test ride a bike each day which should be rather frightening. Riding mid level group. Should be max of 30 bikes in a session unlike usual track group I ride with which can have 60 bikes counting control rider and instructors.

A few upgrades since they will have 40 to 50 MPH on me on the back straight. New Pirelli Superbike slicks with SC1 front and SC2 rear. New Brembo 19RCS master cylinders on brake and clutch. I figure I should be able to carry more corner speed, be able to out brake most of them even with ABS, be able to turn bike in easier and keep tighter and later apexes, and besides that be the only different bike out there. Should be some Superleggeras there as well as some other brands of liter bikes. They asked how fast my bike goes and I said maybe 140 with a tailwind. They will get by me on back straight but I should be able to repass before turn 12. Plan on running much faster thru turn 2, 10, and 16, 17, 18 complex.Hope i can cut 10 seconds off my fastest lap. Weather forcast is sunny and 88 degrees both days, perfect.

I ran the street version of the Pirellis last time and incredible tire. I just need to maintain heat in the tires. The Brembo master cylinder should be one finger pull. I was stopping at 175 to 200 feet on back staright which is 3/4 of a mile long and he said 150 should be good now. He recommended the Versah pads. I am running the EBC GP pads. Was still not using all the front tire so we took a little preload out and might raise the back a little. If I still do not use all the tire we are going with stiffer springs and less preload so the front dives better and does not want to come up mid corner.

WWhat do you mean with "not using the whole front tire"?
If you mean that you don`t use it down to the edge - forget it with the RD500...

My old R1 is scratching with everything on the track before I use the whole front tire :smt005
Maybe with modern bikes, but even there the front tire is made for more lean angle than the bikes allow.

The tires I`m using since 2 years (Dunlop KR and Bridgestone V02) even don`t have an edge where you can judge if you use "the whole tire".

I`m interested in your experience with the Brembo master cylinder.
I have nearly the same configuration, you are only using the golden brake calipers (from R1 RN09+) with aluminum brake pistons instead of steel pistons in the blue calipers.
My plan was to have a brake where the rear wheel gets light at 250km/h with 2 fingers like my standard CBR1000 with EBC pads... but nearly no difference to the standard master cylinder (Lucas CRQ + standard brake rotors).
Hope the Brembo brake pads will improve the performance next year.
After one year of usage the master cylinder starts with a "cracking" noise in "18" position - seems to be a common problem.
No influence on function, it`s just a wear problem between the pin coming from the lever and the piston.
And if it starts leaking - there is no repair kit available from Brembo. This is the reason why I would never buy it again.
The only way to get it repaired is to send it to Brembo, I guess it will be nearly as expensive as buying a new one...

I also thought it was a geometry issue with bike. We are talking about 3/8 of an inch. I do hit the shift lever due to an extension I installed. My tire guy seems to think I am not loading the front enough. I had a lot of preload on the springs when I set it up. I am not using all the stroke in the forks. He was thinking an 85 LB spring with less preload. He did not measure but said it appeared to have a lot of trail. We took two turn out on preload and added a click of rebound. Will see this weekend.

As for brakes, I went to the Brembo due to faulty clutch master cylinder. I figured I would install both. He said the pull should be one finger. I am going to set it on the lower ratio to start with. He said the Versah pads are much better than the EBC ones. He also said there is an issue with the EBC rotors and the SD attachment system getting loose due to how much contact patch they have. The Brembo is suppose to be a better rotor but I am not spending that for track day use.

I am the weak link with the bike. I just hope the clutch gives me no issues and the new master takes a short time to get used too. The back staright at COTA is 3/4 of a mile long. Those 1000RRs are like a missile coming at me. They pass me about 2/3 of the way down the straight but if no one is in the way I can usually move inside and pass them under brakes before the left. All I want is a little more confidence to go 50 feet further before braking and I should be much better.

I really want to ride one of the RRs. Nate Kern does two up rides at most events but I am scared I will pee my pants.

Thanks for the input from another track guy.

I just bought baby wipes due to the heat off the seat. No red arse for me this weekend.

New clutch master worked great. He said bleeder was cracked. Operation of the clutch is way smoother. Brakes better also. You see the pictures just posted?
