If you do know, please share the information. I've been through the 84, 85 and RZV fiche end to end including the regional sections and I don't see anything about the vent valve.

I'm surprised!

Maybe it would be an idea to create a table with all the variations for the different markets?

This set up was only shown on the German 1GE parts list which was strange as this set up was mainly used on California models. It`s what Yamaha call a roll over valve assembly.I have never seen this set up fitted to a bike and i don`t think they left the factory like that.If someone has these parts fitted i would love to see some photos.I have some nos fuel tanks that have the inlet for this valve but would need drilling out for it to be fitted.I will post a photo next time i get one out the stores.

The roll over valve part number 20K2418000 is still available but pipe 1GE24311GO and bracket 1GE24112G0 are no longer available.

Yamaha roll over valve operation

1. The valve vents excess pressure that builds up in the tank from changes in atmospheric pressure inside the tank caused by altitude change, temp change, and vaporization caused by fuel being shaken up on rough roads.

2. The valve prevents fuel from leaking out of the tank vent due to head pressure when the bike is not upright. This requires a "small" amount of pressure be maintained in the tank by a spring loaded section in the valve which the weight of the fuel (head pressure) would have to overcome to leak out of the vent.

Hi Ronnie

I meant other Yamaha models sold in California. As we all know the rz500 was never sold in the USA which is strange why this valve is shown on a German parts list for 1985.

I did wonder! You had me confused there for a minute, and it doesn't take much lately!

On the tank I have the valve was definitely fitted by Yamaha. You can see it in my photos. What about the other differences with the tank....the small white post near the valve and the internal support being different as well as the collar at the cap?

I've seen plenty of German tanks and have only seen this valve twice.

So, nothing more on this tank valve? No one knows where these tanks come from?

Both of my RZ500 tanks have the flat spot.

Here are pics of a Cal only RZ350 fuel tank.
