Dennis,

Maybe you should try to have your local police check the numbers. Both for the frame and for the dataplate. It's possible for them to do it through Interpol to make sure that the bike or just the frame is not stolen in Europe at least. They are not happy to do it, but they have the possibility to do so. It's standard procedure here in Denmark when you have a vehicle with no paperwork, so I bet you can do the same.

If I had a signature, it would be good.

So you have a RZV frame with a 1985 RD500 VIN and a 1984 serial numbered engine. The headstock has had the 51X VIN ground off and then re-stamped with a 1985 1GE VIN, but the clever forger has used a 47X number for the frame label.

What is the actual VIN on the ownership/registration? If it's the same # as on the headstock all you need to do is get a reproduction frame label that matches and it will all make sense and look legal to anyone that checks it. RZV500s didn't have engine VINs, so the 47X # you have isn't important.

You can get a frame label here http://www.rzrd500.com/500phpBB3/viewto ... =7&t=11599" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hi Dennis

Is the engine number the same as the VIN plate ?
Is it this bike : https://www.leboncoin.fr/motos/1001518536.htm?ca=16_s" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ?

Wouldn't it be easier to just go outside and start a fight with your neighbor if you're so desperately looking for trouble ?
Seriously: This bike is not suitable for any legal process except parting it out.
Bye
Martin

Martin is right.

That bike is a good candidate for a track bike, but the fraud with the VIN has effectively ended its chances of every being a legal street bike again. That may be precisely why it is for sale now.

Don't get us wrong, we're not trying to give you a hard time or second-guess your judgement. We're just pointing out that this bike has serious legal issues that will never go away.

Consider this: you have 2 different VINs on the bike now, what happens when one or both of those bikes turn up? Were both bikes scrapped for the VINs? Regardless of what the seller tells you, you have absolutely no way of knowing. So, what's the worst case scenario: having your bike confiscated when the VIN issue comes to light. At that point you would be considered responsible for the fraud. No deal is worth that kind of grief.

Yes, it is.
I decided to pass on this one.
Considering the background I found the price too high - even after a fair bit of negotiation.

Damn, so 1 member less on the dutch meeting then, but Dennis, you made a good decision.
If you would be happy with an european RD500, try RH motoren: Not a cheap one he has for sale but a good looker, considaring piccies and discription.

On Marktplaats there's allso one on sale, a blacky

You could allso try to buy the bike i'd send you a pic of, bare in mind that the owner of that bike is 2 stroke crazy :smt006

RD will come at some point.
Together with OW01, OW02 and '98 R1...
Will focus on TDR now that deserves some attention.

back in 1993 i bought an rd500lc 1ge and loved it, became obsessed and bought an rzv500, cut a long story short transferred 1ge into alloy framed rzv after finding out major diffrences, the lower expansions had rings welded in them so these were removed, kept these due to condition. many more stories could tell and still have motorcycle now, just in process of sorting it to go back on road after many years of sitting in dry garage, had many other motorcycles since i bought these two but had to keep this one.

my point being engines and chassis can be changed as long as the appropriate bodies are notified legally
