#1 Post by paul dawkins » Wed Jul 22, 2009 12:24 pm

Hi All

I have just collected my latest Rd.
Its this RZV500R.
I need to know the year of manufacture so I can obtain an age related number plate
The frame number is 51X 0007##

Any help will be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Paul

Hi

Another Paul with an RZV!

Mine is a 1984 and I think the frame number is 51X 0007..... I will check it tonight and let you know.

However, as far as I understand, to get an age related number you will have to supply a certificate proving the year of manufacture. I think if you contact Yamaha UK they may be able to help.

My RZV has been sadly neglected and will take some work but it looks as though yours is as good as the other Paul's.

Interestingly also missing the correct rear pegs.

Although this is a great site, it would be good if there was a UK rd500 site as the UK Rd site rarely has any RD500 content.

Food for thought.

Geoff

Have a look at this link,it will have the 47x type parts. If the chassis number was between 51X020101 / 51X021200 it would have 1GE type parts.

Hey Paul... first off - welcome to the group !!

Now, you say this is your "latest" RD... that would indicate you have some more of these rare beasts hiding somewhere?? :smt045

Some observations on this bike.... RD wheels and lack of braided stainless lines on front brakes/antidive....

A hybrid maybe??

And.. what's up with the infusion of RZVs on the forum from the UK lately... possibly a side-effect from that big Japanese RZV collection ebay sale from last year ... :smt102 :smt023

And now this for my winter project

I think this is the collection you were talking about and yes mine was one of them, A friend grabbed one and has not touched it since so he sold it to me.

I plan on keeping the bike standard apart from Goodridge brake lines and some minor upgrades.
I am just collecting parts at the moment and will start the stripdown in October/November when I hibernate to the garage for 5 months.

Got a few bits missing like Battery cover, belly pan bracket and maybe a heat shield that goes in the belly pan, im not sure if this had one or not???

I have a bar end missing and a few other minor bits and pieces.
Im still not sure on the mileage, what tyres did Yamaha supply with this bike?

Paul

Hi Paul,Your bike would have left the factory with Yokohama F101 and R101 tyres.

I heard once that it's illegal to take a pasanger on the highway in Japan. Which probably has something to do with the missing rear pegs and the high percentage of bikes it that pic that have solo seat cowles.

Also, upon closer review of the pics (meaning i put on my "reading glasses" ) I see it has the correct RZV braided stainless brake lines.... so only the wheels are suspect...

And, nice to see that some of the RZVs from that UK collection auction are making their way here... :smt006
