I never imagined the 500 would have an option for a rack!
Great find!

I knew there were some racks available as a aftermarket part but never knew Yamaha offered one as a genuine part.I still don`t know the part number which is not like me :???: .This is a Yamaha Germany part so maybe only available to them?.I will try to find out more.

In all my years with this bike, I never heard of such a luggage rack available OEM... but what a great idea! You still have the function of the grab rail (which I am TOTALLY in favor of - you RZV & Aussie owners don't know how much of a blessing it REALLY is when trying to push the beast around the garage or other parking situations... )

And, you get the ability to strap some overnite luggage to the bike as well... oh how I could've used that feature when using my 500 to travel to the USGPs of the early '90s....

Steve, DO keep us updated on exactly where this rare option was available... 8-)

Hi there!

Yup - on my bike. I fit the oem rear-end and luggage rack when I go camping ;-) A small tent and a sleeping bag fits perfectly.
My friends Suzuki GS500 carries the chairs, the barbecue and the food along with his tent etc.

The rack is actually very sturdy.

Hi again,

I would never joke about such a serious matter!

No, it's not a joke. It is a fine little luggage rack. All you need are friends that can carry the rest of the stuff

The weight shifts to the rear when using the rack though, so the bike get's a little unstable at 180+ km/h speeds. Usually I travel with friends riding GS500 (you know him allready) and others riding GT500 and GT750 Suzukis, so high speeds are not an issue..
