Great project. For anyone who's interested, Fast Freddie is down at the Ace Cafe (London) tonight.

Steve

Bit too far for you RC45 I guess

If you get a chance, show him this thread on your PDA/Tablet/Smart Phone and ask him if would mind loaning me the fairing off his NS500 so I can get moulds taken - ask him to forward his answer to Rick D in Japan.

LOL, worth a laugh if he responds hehe.

Rick Degan, the gentleman who is probably the person best suited to handling the final sale of Freddies bikes if the right buyer ever comes along.

Great guy Freddie, he said the lightest his triple ever got was 112kg with 140-150 bhp. Anywhere near that!

No wonder the triple was a beast that few could tame.

The only 16" front tyre I could get my hands on was a 7 year old dry rotted Avon AM22 - finding decent rubber for the front wheel is gonna be a challenge for sure.

As much as we like to think the old school stuff ic heavt junk, the wheel/bearing/rotor/tyre combo weighs in at 26.6lbs. By comparison a 2006 R6 front wheel/tyre/rotors and bearings weighs in at 25.8lbs.

This being said though, the VF1000R rear wheel/cushdrive assembly is HUGE - may not be able to fit the MC18 F3 kit swingarm. So off to find an NS400 rear hub/spokes to lace up to the VF1000R rear wheel hoop.

The Comstars really has the look :)

How are you going to replace the one-way bolts on the Comstars? If you get new ones machined I'd be interested in a set.[/quote]

The oneway bolts can be removed and replaced with the correct tool head.

I am awaiting reply from a couple folks that have relaced the NS250, RS250, NS400 and VF1000R wheels rims to differend spokes already - hopefully I can buy a tool head from them or if need be just get one made up locally or as a last resort make one out of an exiting torx head.

I have successfully re-used the original bolts myself, but I wanted better ones in titanium or at least stainless (assuming tensile strength is OK).
From the method I have used (torx bits) the bolts get damaged asnd dont look so good any more

When I did my comstar conversion for an NS I just welded rods onto the original bolts and un-did them that way (as delicately as possible) and then cleaned up the original bolts. Looked OK but not 'show-room'.

True Wolfgang! I had forgotten! We traded the VFR wheel for a speed sensor kit.
Seems like a long time ago!

Cheers,
D.

RS250 forks arrived. They are tiny.... and feather light.

16.8lbs - 7 and a half kilos - triple clamps, steering stem forks and front axle.

Took some rough meamsurements, the RS250 forks look to be an exact fit :)

Compared the normal front-end swap candidates like newer R6 forks, these things are Lilliputian.

The new forks - and the obligatory Ti bolts to drop a few more ounces.

These next images are not for the squeamish or faint-hearted purists - the black X's are show where the NS400 frame is to be hacked up :)

Test fitting the RS250R foot pegs/brackets. Come to think of it, this bike is ending up more RS250 that NS :

Another box of goodies has arrived from Japan.

Here are the super light weight and beautifully made "Battorra Factody Cripons"
Image

Roller bearing upgrade. It is a good thing that the street NS400 steering components are the same dimensions as the 1986 GP RS250. The 250 triple bolts right up to the NS400 roller bearsing

And the good looking MC18 FIII Kit brake calipers.
