Congrats! I like your no compromise approach. If I may ask - what are your thoughts currently regarding the cases? Will they be custom and if yes - how long before we can have a peek at the cases in progress?

Well, progress on the cases will depend on me being able to secure the 3 RS500 barrels, heads and reed cages I located - I am working on that at the moment.

I got a little distracted with the prep of my car for open road racing. Too many projects not enough time :)

This is one of the coolest pieces of unobtanium I have ever purchased :) The matching front to the rear I managed to obtain earlier in the year.

I now have a complete set of 1983 NS500/1984 RS500 wheels. The customer RS500's essentially received all the factory 1983 NS500 bits.

The most interesting part is how the factory NS500 wheels treat the hub/spoke/brake rotor differently to the street NS250/400 VF500/1000.

Unobtanium. What can one say? Except, I'd very much like to be in your shoes :supz:. Regarding the RS barrels - you're planning to put together a RS500 engine for the build? Sounds like a plan. Better than fabricating a new set of cases.

Well even if I was able to get a set of cases patterned after the NS500/RS500 made, I would still need better barrels than the NS400 ones. I figured with 3 RS500 barrels I have the magic of the HRC port design already figured out.

Then again, could the NS400 crank survive 500cc worth of HRC ported abuse?

Yeah - I seen that, but it is not much different from the 1986 and 1987 HRC RS frame - which is easily simulated with an NF5 RS250 frame.

Now if an HRC 1983/84/85 RS/NS500 frame came up for sale, that would be more worth while in my mind.

I am no longer just flying towards the sun - I fear I am now actually riding Haleys comet and will slingshot past the sun every 76 years never quite getting close enough to touch it and melt my wax wings....

Actual RS500 expansion chambers have managed to find their way into the latest box of goodies. Now that I have the carbs, the pipes and the wheels, it only stands to reason that I will now have to find/create a set of cases.

Don't you have RS500/NS500 bodywork on your NS400? I have found a bloke in Finland that I am buying the RG500 XR45 bodywork from - he says if he has access to RS500/NS500 fairing he will make a mould and make copies.

The RG500 fairing

Perhaps he will set you up with an extra set of bodywork in payment for loaning him your set so he can create some moulds.

Any interest?

Its me 8-)

I bougth thr original RS500 fairings With seatbase when I did my NS400R racebike years ago. They had to be modiified to fit on the NS400R frame. The NS400R two pipes under the engine needed more Space than the single 360 degree pipe under the RS 500. The RS500R bottom fairing was very narrow at the bottom, so I had to lower it an inch or two. To make the top fairing give enough room for the stearing head, Clip ons and Controls, I had to add the same amount to the top fairing.

Also the tank rear and seatbase framerails are wider on the NS400R, thus I also had to Widen the cutout for the NS400R gas tank too.

The RS500 and NS500 Production/factory bikes must have been tiny and compact. The NS400R is not a big bike either.

The bike is regurarly used, and have been in the gravel and have some minor damages, but its holding together.

I think this fairings are unobtanium by now, havent seen one for ages.

Well, the good news is that the bloke in Finland found a set of RS500 fairings as is making a mold.
