Hi
I'm looking to add an RG500 back into my collection after recently selling my German import.
Hopefully a member of this forum maybe considering selling their machine either now or at some point in the future.
I'm based in the UK but will import no problem.
Please pm me if you have or know where there is a bike for sale. I'm not trying to get one for nothing I'm a genuine buyer.
Thank you

Re: WTB RG500
The market on these had a rare fluke just last month. I've been watching them for 3 or 4 years as I built other 2 stroke bikes, mostly RZ, H1, H2 types. Never thought I'd land an RG.
One popped up on craigslist just 15 miles from my wife's sister. I was going to call the guy and have her go over with the money and then haul it back to her house. It was all original, and he only wanted $6000.00 USD for it. I kept getting his Russian-sounding wife on the phone number that he had listed; she kept saying there is no motorcycle for sale here you are mistaken. I left voice messages.
Then he called me 2 days later to say his wife didn't know the bike was for sale, and that he just sold it. Sheesh I was pissed!
Anyway, cut to the chase- after 3 years of one here, one there and all at super high prices I sat down at the computer and did a search on RG500 just to amuse myself as I have always done..... there were 6 of them listed in various locations and various conditions. Even a $30K Walter Wolf....
the prices were down, on all of them. I called the guy down by San Diego about the one I was interested in and he still had it. Said several guys were "on the fence".... all I said was give me your info and I'll transfer a deposit right now over the phone.
Done deal, and I landed an uber-clean 86 with 9000 miles on it at a fantastic price.
So I guess what I'm saying is keep at it, keep looking but be ready to strike like a rattlesnake when you see the one you want. There's literally no time to even think much about it or you're going to get beat out

Re: WTB RG500
The bike for $30K sold to a private party in WI. The other two are scams. If anyone wants to avoid being burned by scam ads, you would be well advised to check with noted authorities familiar with these bikes before pulling the trigger any other way but in person.
If I disagree with everyone, that doesn't make me right. If I take the side of only one, it doesn't end the fight. If my position's strong enough from exposure to the light, you may see things my way when we share the same highway.
