matching numbers

were the 500 gamas frame and engine numbers ever matched or was it only yamaha that done it

The RG Gamma did not have matching frame and engine numbers as assembled from the factory.
If I disagree with everyone, that doesn't make me right. If I take the side of only one, it doesn't end the fight. If my position's strong enough from exposure to the light, you may see things my way when we share the same highway.

I was wondering the same thing. Rick, is there a specific range the engine #s should be? For example, within 300 or 400 of the frame, as some manufactures do.

Not really, John. I have a partial list (about 450) of frame and engine numbers for the Canada run. VIN's are from 012 to 982 and engine numbers are from batches 101xxx, 102xxx, 103xxx, 104xxx, 105xxx and 106xxx with motor numbers ascending and descending somewhat randomly relative to VIN. Email me at <rick@lancegamma.com> with your VIN and I will check my list to see if yours is there.

Suzuki did at one time have matching frame and engine numbers but that sort of went south around late 1970.
