Re: Downtime - new dedicated server

Nothing too out of the ordinary there really.
If it is my ISP, why is it only RZRD500.com that is affected?
It's not that simple really. I'm not saying it's your ISP. As your traceroute shows, your packets can go through many networks to get to their destination. There could be an issue in any one of those "hops".
There are route instructions all over the internet that tell your packets where to go next to reach it's particular destination.

When I had issues last week, the traceroutes didn't show anything obvious, but it's always the easiest place to go.
To muddy the waters even further, some networks play around with packet priority (Quality of Service) so that packets with certain properties get higher priority than normal packets. So for instance, traceroute packets could have higher priority so they never fail, yet website traffic could be lower in the food chain. That's why it's not always easy to find where the issue lies.

Having said that, this website doesn't do anything different no matter who is connecting, so there is no reason why this web server should give you a lesser service than anyone else.
I'd be interested to see the page load time you see at the bottom of the screen though, as this will tell us if there's some weird issue in the database that your username triggers. It's a really really long shot though to be honest.

John - have you also tried logging onto the forum thru someone else's computer somewhere else who isn't using Xplornet? If so, same problem or not?

This is what getting to the homepage produced [ Time : 0.047s | 8 Queries | GZIP : On ]

It took me 8 minutes to get to this page. Faster than usual lately.

The only other option I can use to make a comparison is with one of the cellphones.

Ok, so the server is generating the page just as quickly - it's just taking forever to get to you.
Trying from a cell phone would be a great test to compare.

Just went back to have a look at your trace route. It doesn't look like the whole thing is posted - or did it just get to that 13th hop and do nothing?
If so, the trace route is showing an issue. You're in Canada, so you're probably closer to the server than any of us. You should have the least "hops".

I just did the trace route again and got the same results. 13 and then quits

I just logged on with my daughter's cell phone and access was instant.

What I am finding interesting now is that the 350 side is painfully slow. Much slower than the 500 side. Accessing the 350 side to edit 2 posts was a 30 minute adventure. The 500 side is manageable with a lot of patience. The 350 side just isn't happening at all. 30 minutes to get anywhere.

You say that the website http://www.esecuredata.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; loads better for you.
Can you do a trace route to their website and compare the hops between the two?

Ok, if you look at the last 3 hops of each, they do take a slightly different route, so there may be an issue with one of the links or equipment in the last few hops.

It's possible that this is just load balancing between two links and if you did other trace routes, they might share each link. But if not, I would say that the issue lies with "WANA" between toronto and vancouver.
You could send these trace routes to your ISP and see if they can do anything about it, but this is where it gets tough. They don't own those links, so they would have to try and contact grouptelecom, who may or may not give a shit.

My ISP is useless, so no chance whatsoever of getting any help from them. When I call them I end up talking so someone who knows less about it than I do.

I do appreciate your help, but don't worry too much about it. It seems everyone else is doing just fine so I'll learn to live with it. It could very well be something with my ISP and if that is the case, perhaps it will get better at some future point. Fixed wireless here is hit and miss at the best of times. If a tower 500 miles from here has a problem I get rerouted and it all goes to hell.

My ISP has a website dedicated to telling everyone how bad they suck. How cool is that...Lol

I don't know what happened, but today the response is instantaneous. 10 hours ago nothing, and now the response is immediate both here and over on the 350 side!!

I'd say the host has made some changes, or they have passed on the problem to the upstream provider.
Good to hear.. I'll let them know.
