Downtime - new dedicated server
There is going to be some downtime in the next 8 hours while we migrate to a new server.
This time it's dedicated to our needs so we are not at the beck and call of anybody except the data centre that the server sits in, so we should have a much better service. It's hosted in Canada as well rather than Australia, so you North American folk may see slight performance improvement.
I need to take the site down so that there are no changes to the old database while the transfer to the new server happens.

Re: Downtime - new dedicated server
Once again, HUGE thanks and tip of the helmet to Jeff (hybrid) for getting it all handled.
We are controlling our own destiny now, and I like it!
Jeff is deep into a Master's degree program in IT right now, so where he finds the time, I don't know, but I bet he could do all this in his sleep (and I wouldn't doubt he did!!)

Re: Downtime - new dedicated server
I agree Tom. Much appreciated.
I was having problems with the last upgrade when the forum changed. There was a lag everytime I opened a page. Sometimes it was so bad I'd leave it until later in the day. The page just wouldn't open. It was never there beforehand. Well now it's instant again. That problem has gone. WOOHOO!

I will look into it, but I have seen some rejection messages to certain email addresses. Some mail servers are blocking our mail as spam for no good reason. I have tried to contact most of them, but some don't bother to reply and I won't chase them any further.
Re: Downtime - new dedicated server
Your emails are being delivered to gmail.
Check your gmail spam folder. Tom had the same issue.

Same issue I'm having now. Before the move everything was great. Since the latest server move it now takes me 15 minutes to get onto the forum and sending a PM can be a frustrating 30 minute battle.
Re: Downtime - new dedicated server
Its got to be a network issue. Its the only explanation.
Do you have the same issue getting to http://www.esecuredata.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ?
Last week Australia had link issues to USA and i experienced the same issues you described. Sometimes it would be ok and other times it would not load, or half load.

Re: Downtime - new dedicated server
That link opened right away. I tried multiple times and the longest was just a few seconds.
It's only here and the 350 site that are causing problems for me. It only started the day the server location changed. Odd how it seems to be working fine, or even faster, for most people.

Re: Downtime - new dedicated server
John, I have to agree with Jeff.... seems your issue is network latency thru your ISP to our new server. No one else has reported that sort of issue to either me or Jeff since the changeover.
Who is your ISP?
My issue (and Steve's) was with gmail (in their infinite wisdom) marking forum email sent to me as spam, and sending it all to my spam folder.

Re: Downtime - new dedicated server
The other thing you could try is logging out and see if the issue is still there.
Or trying from a browser that you don't normally use.
When the page does load, scroll to the bottom and you will see the page load time:
So you can see for me, the page load time was 120ms. That is the time that the server takes to generate the page.
If you see times similar to that, yet the page takes longer to load on your machine, then it's definitely a network issue.
If the time at the bottom reflects the time you actually see, then maybe there is an issue with your user account, or the temporary internet files/cookies on your PC.
I very much doubt this will be the case though.

Re: Downtime - new dedicated server
I just did a ping test from here and got this:
Pinging rzrd500.com [71.19.240.206] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 71.19.240.206: bytes=32 time=117ms TTL=48
Reply from 71.19.240.206: bytes=32 time=114ms TTL=48
Reply from 71.19.240.206: bytes=32 time=119ms TTL=48
I'm with Xplornet. They suck. Not other option here so we take what we can get. Fixed wireless. If it is my ISP, why is it only RZRD500.com that is affected?
Did tracert http://www.rzrd500.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and got this. Not sure what it means, but it looks like it's making its way all over the place
