Going under the knife !!

#1 Post by rztom » Sun Dec 07, 2014 5:01 pm

Hi guys... Just wanted to let you all know I will be off the radar for the next week or so, as I am having a total knee replacement on my right knee (yeah, the kick-start one... :smt011 ), this Tuesday (Dec. 9th). I will then be sporting new titanium and plastic hardware!

Any lurkers out there who sign up for fourm membership during this time, your activation may be delayed, so please understand.

Any of you peeps had this done, or know of someone who has? I would be interested in hearing about your experience.

Wish me luck!!

Good luck Tom! I've only had minor knee surgery using the scope so not as invasive as your replacement.
For me the recovery/physical therapy was a pain - literaly!

different than you but I had complete bone-tendon-bone ACL graft on right knee... recovery was about a year but I'll never trust it as long as I live :(

best of luck with your procedure!!!!

A friend of mine had knee surgery. While recouperating he fell on ice and had to go thru it all again!
Take it easy after the procedure and protect it!!

Sorry I did not see this. Ok. Only good news. It is Christmas. Take it from someone that has a fused left tib fib. Compound pelvis fracture with umpteen screws and two plates. You will do great. They, the docs, know what they are doing. You will be great. I had a small support group. They will have you up in no time. I know it will hurt but do what they say and listen to the rehab people. Become friends with him or her. The more you show them you wish to get better the more the will be able to help you. If you you can get a recumbent bike and use it if doc and therapist system yes. If you have a YMCA with pool available, USE IT. They will have you moving in a week. DO IT. I was on crutches for 12 weeks and shit locks up. Again, do the therapy and more. I do not need to know your age but I am 60 and if I could of pushed it more I would have but the leg injury at 19 held me up. A 70 year old British woman I know went down training to defend her duathalon world masters championship at broke shoulder and both sides of her pelvis riding her bicycle and after my ankle surgery issues her answer to me was, take an aleve and just do it. It will get better no matter what you think. Three track days at COTA last year and three planned so far tell what we where given. A body that can do incredible things and even more than we can ever expect. I went on enough. All will be fine, once thru surgery use the fricking breathing thing no matter what you think, and get up and get going. We are all here for you and if you need someone to kick you in the fnnnn ass I am here. Hope I said enough. Merry Christmas. Look at it as a kinda twisted gift with the final outcome, NO MORE PAIN. Keep us updated please and you are in my prayers. Get your friends to keep us updated if you are not up to it. Seriously.
