A DAUNTING TASK IN DEED,
HERCULIAN EFFORT BY MANY RZ500 MEMBERS
GREAT TO SEE SOME PROGRESS.
HERCULIAN EFFORT BY MANY RZ500 MEMBERS
GREAT TO SEE SOME PROGRESS.
I am just an average fellow trying to enjoy my time off from work.
To all:
Have some interesting developments with our saga RE Gus. Right now Brian and I are waiting on a response, so I'm not going to spill the beans yet. But I wanted to build the suspense, though. hehehe
Anyway, do have a parts list from Brian, so the below listed items are requested by Brian to complete the motor:
1) Clutch inner hub
2) Water pump seals ( both inner and outer seals )
3) Clutch Push Rod
4) Balance Shaft
5) Oil Pump Gear, ( Long Shaft with washers and c-clips )
6) 2x Cylinders, ( Cylinder with hole for reed block ) ( both cylinders that Gus sent me are "junk" cracked sub - exhaust ports )
***Note see #8 below, bc Brian says the cylinders are at max bore now, do we need to get a set of four cylinders with less use??
7) Gasket set ( complete gasket kit with every gasket needed )
8 ) Piston Set ( the cylinders that Gus sent me are @ max bore now, 57.5mm so if you ever have a problem you will have to resleeve the cylinder, max bore now. The cylinder that were on Mickey's motor from day one were 1st bore over. )
***Note would like to go aftermarket/performance, so who knows where we can get some?
9) Reed Blocks, ( banshee or whatever some of the guys are using that are a little bigger that stock )
10) Carbs (my item). I have the stock carbs, but Brian is also making a set of pipes so the motor will definately breath better, so I have no clue as to what would work best, I do remember Mickey say stock carbs were anemic bc of emissions regs. Do we upgrade stock carbs, get larger ones??).
So there's the list, for now. If anyone has parts to donate, please post and/or PM me and I can coordinate with you Re getting them to Brian. If anyone knows where to buy/trade for any of the above parts, please post/PM me with details. And, if anyone else has any other input, no matter how small, I know I can use your guidance.
Thanks,
John

We do love pictures of new cranks sitting pretty yes we do...
Well done!
Regarding the carb issues I would (and have) rebuild my existing carbs with a good kit and play with jets to get the motor breathing right.
Going the alternative carb route has been done to great effect by many of the guys here on the forum but there is no denying that it gets expensive. I would run rebuilt stock carbs and spend the extra money that doesn't go on new carbs on some dyno time.
Just my thoughts.

Blackshaheen,
Thx for the response. Obviously, although familiar and addicted to motorcycles in general, I am only just getting up to speed on the RZ's bc of having to take care of Mickey's bikes. Therefore, RE rebuilding the stock carbs, does one just do a general rebuild (ie: cleaning, new gaskets, replacing worn parts) or does a kit exist which modifies the stock carbs utilizing different parts (ie: slides, floats, etc.)? Regardless of the options, who do you feel would be the quickest to turn around the parts needed to complete the carb rebuild? I would like to order parts right away bc I can get started with the carbs while Brian's working on the motor.
