Thanks Vin, you're welcome.

Here are some pics of the panel clearance and how it looks sitting on the bike.
It is also interesting that Yamaha chose to place the fairing ducts perfectly spaced between the two filters on each side......

Have had a couple people ask for the latest setup on these, I ended up going richer after some riding in different conditions.

At sea level and about 60F, I'm at #3 JJH with 45/155 on the pilot/mains. Some carbs/engines/track use may even like #4 JJH and 48/158 for a really safe richness or cooler weather at SL.

My bike has a slight tendency to burble/load up with the richer setting at part throttle in street use, but when you're constantly on it, it doesn't do it, so that would be my track setting.

Similar setup as mine 152/155 mains 45 pilot jjh 3float height set to 18mm
although im playing with kr1s needles at the moment and have a set of 28/30 kiehens to play with too

Hi, my setup #3 JJH with 45/156 and the RU-2760 k&n´s i have plug fouling issues :-(

Have anyone tried smaller pilots 40-42?
Or should i concentrate on the floater hights? I am using kx100 keihins with standard floater hight.

The caps and cables for the coils are new. Used both BR9HS & BR9-Iridium fouls both types.

Jolly moto GP, mild porting on cylinder, tsi head, carbon fiber reeds, zeeltronic.

The bike runs great i might add, but foul plugs after 20-30 km´s.

Plug fouling is frustrating but my experience is it's usually something bigger than slight changes.

So you can try the 42's, a 1mm change in float height, a switch to BR8HS hotter plug etc., but my guess is it's something bigger like

chokes hanging open, coil mount (ground) being cracked, wrong aftermarket caps/cables with too much resistance, timing too retarded etc.

If it's doing it more on certain cylinders, start with that clue as to what's happening.

Runs great and fowling plugs does not sound right. What does it do with stock carbs or has it ever been ran with stock carbs? I would like to hear a bike that runs really clean with these carbs through the entire rpm and throttle range with no issues.

Hi, the lower coil bracket was broken :-) Fixed it and I added extra cables for earth. Runs great now done 50 km on it will se if it holds.

Mr Stamper, it runs great with Keihins. Much better than the mikunis that I hade huge problems with ended up with Ivan-needles.
It pulls at any rpm even with WOT So I am very happy, and for you guys in the states its only 400 dollars + some for filters , for a kit that is a cheap upgrade.

Just my thoughts

Thanks for the help / Stinke

Awesome, glad the coil bracket/ground recommendation was it.

I fished with mine for awhile before figuring that one out, not obvious but is a plug killer.

Cheers!

You need to post a video of it running so we can hear engine response. I did one of the tachometer and how the bike pulled at different throttle positions.

that is affordable, has a large modern supply line and is easy to tune and care for.
After going through multiple different Mikuni/Keihin/Oko etc. options, decided on the Keihin PWK28.
For the unfamiliar, it is the modern version of the carb that came on the Kawasaki KR1.

Supply: One of the strong points of the carb. is that it is the current,
and has been for over a decade, carb. for the Kawasaki KX85/KX100 and Yamaha YZ85.
Modern supply, modern parts, easy accessibility and will be stocked till we're all fertilizer.
When calling to order 4 and asking if they had enough.....they laughed at that.

Cost: Because factory Kawi has boatloads of them, they can be had for an extremely affordable price.
You may notice some real Keihins (not OKOs) are listed on sites for $200-$300 each, like for the YZ85 etc.
But it was noticed that Kawasaki was selling the KX85 PWK28's for ~$86.
http://www.kawasakipartsnation.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I thought these were the cheap OKO knockoffs that many have had issues with, that are commonly about $80.
So I ordered 4 to see what was up and they just came in.
The $86 Kawasaki ones are real, made in Japan, factory Keihin PWK28's with the green factory
inspected markings, the nice castings, nice polished slides, good jetting
and even come with fresh Keihin vent tubes and clips....very nice.

Great info! Do you know what Kawasaki part number you bought? PN 15004-0856 is what i come up with for the KX85 and they go for about $180 now. wrong PN Ihave?
Thanks

Thanks, whatever the most recent one was, not sure of the number back then.
That was six years ago so looks like the prices have come up, but check around.

Yeah I think they have got smart and realised the demand for these carbs. I got mine for $85 each several years ago.

I bought the kx100 carbs (15003-1643), just needs another needle and main jet. The price seems to be 127 dollars on Ebay and other places.

Yup it's looking like they haven't raised the prices as much on the KX100 PWK28's, checked a couple Kawasaki discount sellers

and all are at $127, so pick the one with no tax and free shipping for your location and still a great deal imho.

Hello all,

I would like to re-awake this thread, as I am at the moment struggeling with the Keihin conversion of my bike. It is a a stock Rd500 with Lomas pipes and Zeel ignition. I did the Setup as described before with foam filters, and it workes fine ( but not perfect ) so far. The worst thing is the noise which is for long riding on puplic roads a bit too much for my ears. Until the K&N filters are delivered ( worth a try ), I tried to setup the bike with the stock airbox. With it it is far too rich using MJ >130. So please did anybody do a jetting with the Standard airbox and Keihin PWK28 ? best regards
Olli
