Too Cool. Those prop blocks look like a big help in getting an excellent result. Thanx, and glad you finally found it!

My head is spinning. :smt103

Busa posted a link to check out the custom bikes - but the site is a custom pipe manufacturer in Japan!

I'm speechless, at the moment. And just gutted that I don't live closer to someone doing this kind of work.

I'll post up a few pics, but there's a whole lot to see here, including titanium pipes:

Here's an interesting page to check out. I can only imagine the cool pipes dimestak could make.

I know him from building custom bikes. Never checked out the other stuff he's into, but it's just as I expected.

Just found this custom 3 into 1 silencer.

Very custom. I wonder what it looks like on the inside.

Thanks, but I'm fully aware of Mark Dent. Great fabricator. Would be no problem if the pipes fit like OEM, but I need custom fitment. Would be just as difficult shipping a bike to England, as shipping one to Japan (and back). I'm in SoCal.

The first set of pipes I need is for an Aprilia SXV with an RZ350 engine. I'm hoping Jeff Henise is still interested. He's the only person I've actually talked to about it, but he's not really making pipes any more.

Will probably need custom pipes for the RZV also. At least the uppers. Hoping for a tail swap with the pipes and tail raised higher off the rear tire. Depends how much time I have left to finish.

Again, depending on time, I'll also need some titanium RZ350 pipes. May be able to use pipes with modified OEM fitment, and could possibly have these made without sending the bike. Not sure yet.

Only other guy I know about in California is BT. I'm afraid to ask him about one-off work because I've heard he has always has a long line-up of work from race teams. Custom titanium or stainless pipes from BT would be a dream come true.

Smoker, you may try reaching out to Matt Shearer at
(760) 949-0017. He's also in SoCAL.

I should have posted this photo, too.

Spectacular, in my humble opinion. :smt007

Thanks again, Bill. :smt006

I have Shearer's name on my list, but I think he only does oxy-acetylene welding and steel pipes. I haven't asked yet, though. Just what I've observed from searching.

If that's my only choice, then okay. Just a personal preference, but I think pipes look way better when done with TIG welding. Also, I would prefer stainless or titanium. Never seen Shearer pipes made out of either one. I think his pipes are performance-oriented as opposed to custom pipes.

I'll definitely ask, because Shearer is closer than anyone else.

Have you considered approaching Jim Lomas and asking if he can do it for you? Send him the specs and an explanation and see what he has to say. If anyone could do it perfectly, it would be his shop.

I Love Lomas. Great dude and tv show. Would make great custom stainless pipes, if I would fly my bike to Europe. Pretty sure Wolfgang took at least one bike there for custom pipes.

Unfortunately, I'm not that big of a baller. :smt009

Had that problem when I wanted a custom swingarm for the RZ500. Metmachex said no, unless I sent the bike.

I posted that reply in the wrong thread Pete. I meant that to apply to your special project request here http://www.rzrd500.com/500phpBB3/viewto ... 399#p94399" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I posted a link to a YouTube video showing how to make the "zebra stripe" finish on titanium.

Basically, the color annealing is done after tacking, then when the welds are done, it removes the color on the welding beads.

So, how is the following type of "zebra striping" done? Notice the crisp edges on the coloring. It's clearly a different technique. Perhaps, the color annealing is done after welding, then it's masked and the color is removed where it's not wanted? Looks like there's also a hard line where the different colors come together.

Never seen this kind of treatment on any bike pipes.

Notice there's no color inside the pipes.

Must figure out this voodoo! :smt017
