Still baffled by this photo. :smt017

How is the color isolated? Why doesn't the metal on each side of the colored parts change color, as well? How is this technique possible???

I may have to join some welding forums to find the answer. Maybe, as Kenny mentioned, it's machine welded to make the perfect lines, but if they are welding beads, how do they make different colors?

I think the photo is an optical illusion like a kaleidoscope. If you look at each of the 4 sections, every part has the exact same colour reflections and the bands are all symmetrica. lt's not a real piece in my opinion, but 4 mirrors images.

That, I understand.

My only question is how the coloring is done.

Just very curious. Not very confident I'll be able to have this kind of stuff done to custom pipes.

I'm willing to try, though. :smt102

I'd bet it's a 400 series stainless. It turns colors when it gets hot.

I've machined metal like this. The hot chips are beautiful colors. Unfortunately a fingerprint is enough to dull the bright luster significantly.

It might not be a thin walled part, so the colour is the filler, which saw the highest temperature, and you can see the heat affected zone in the base metal that didn't get hot enough to change colour. I could also be completely wrong.

I'm starting to see more and more pipes with zebra striping.

I would sure like to have this done on some of my projects.

Sorry for the 4 stroke pipes, but that's where I see the most development.

A little confused about the last pic. Looks like a stainless pipe connected to a titanium pipe. Unless, that coloring is done to a stainless pipe? Or, all titanium? I don't know, but it's cool.

Not Tiger striping, but the welds look great after color annealing.

Wonder how much this dude would charge to color a pipe?

Actually, I'm pretty sure Tyga colored titanium pipes (posted earlier) are made in Thailand or Vietnam.

They must have a huge market with all those scooters and bikes.

Okay, I'm finding MANY pics of pipes like this. Mostly on scooters.

There just has to be a way for me to get custom pipes like this - other than sending my bike to Thailand or Vietnam!

This is how the Ti race exhaust on my false-stroke CBR1000RR SP2 have changed color over about 2 miles of riding.

Cool pipe, RC45. Would be interesting to see how it changes with more use.

My 4-stroke pipe only came with a small amount of color. Over 25,000 miles on the pipe now.

The purple, blue, and polished titanium colors came on the new silencer, and don't change with use.

Pretty sure this guy is explaining the process and how not to do it. Unfortunately, I can't understand one word.

Here's a guy doing a nice two-stroke pipe. Using some kind of turntable. Wish I knew what he's saying!

Are those pipes all polished stainless rather than Ti?
