Fuel Filter Outlet - don't get ripped off!
Noticed on ebay lately the fuel filter outlet assembly is going for stupid money - used ones for near $100 bucks, NOS from Singapore for $85 etc - it is a 47X part number but is widely available and was used on other models than the RZ500.
I just got a new one from boats.net 47X-24560-00-00 $22.96 had it in 3 days. bolts and the sealing washers are also still available for $1.81 each respectively.
My fuel filter came un glued from the aluminum outlet, was trying to figure out how to fix it but for $22 it did not get repaired.

Yep, people should always check the local dealers first. Many eBay sellers are simply selling you what Yamaha still sells, but at highly inflated prices. Several Singapore sellers are famous for it.

check out the TZR250 3MA filter. It bolts into the RZ500 gas tank and it has a shut off. It comes in handy if you have to remove the tank.

those are a good idea, I am running quick disconnects in line which are off when removed to make it easier to remove tank but the txt shutoff is equally good I think!giron wrote:check out the TZR250 3MA filter. Re: Fuel Filter Outlet - don't get ripped off!
I had the quick release. I didn't care for it. I removed the gas tank on my 3MA. It was the way to go. I try it on my RZV500 and you eliminate most of the gas on the lines when you are storing the bike for long periods.

Re: Fuel Filter Outlet - don't get ripped off!
There are also a lot of Yamaha parts listed as "RD500 NOS" which are in fact just the still available parts with new number.
From technical point of view they fit, but often they look wrong.
One example - RD350 (1986+ model) mirrors sold as RD500 mirrors.
The stone guard (not the bracket) is also a nice part, still available for ~80€.
On Ebay I have found some used stone guards for the same price or new parts for 120+€.

Yes Steve, it is.
And giron, that was the entire point of this thread. Check with Yamaha first.
The people selling NOS at huge mark-up on eBay are buying direct from Yamaha and selling to those who don't check with Yamaha themselves. It's an expensive way to buy parts.

Re: Fuel Filter Outlet - don't get ripped off!
Hi John
I usually buy the petcocks used for less than $20.00. Also the filter from the TZR250 3MA is the same as the 500. Once source is Naomi Ishihara (Myabee plus or Spongebob0817) I was fortunate enough when my wife was alive to help me recognize the Japanese characters and left me with a few notes to start texting in Japanese through the Yahoo japan website. Once you break the ice the Japanese want nothing better to practice the English with you. Don't jump to conclusion most of the stuff in Yahoo Japan is used.

Re: Fuel Filter Outlet - don't get ripped off!
Wish I could read Japanese. My wife is German and I lived in Germany for 5 years, so I can function pretty well and most of my dealings are in Germany. Germany has the cheapest shipping costs in Europe, so it should be on everyone's list when parts hunting.
I have bought many new genuine Yamaha parts from Germany, but only when they are NLA from Yamaha here and then I am truly buying NOS. What I was saying was you should always verify with Yamaha at home before looking online as Yamaha is usually cheaper at home than at the offshore eBay suppliers we all know. They simply buy, jack up the price, and resell. Even if your dealer costs a little more you should be buying from him or soon you won't have a dealer. My dealer is very fair and doesn't have a huge mark-up on parts prices and gives me a 10% discount on everything. When you restore as much as I do that adds up to a lot of $$.
