Gear shifter problem

#1 Post by cidair » Wed May 25, 2016 4:12 am

Hi
I have a problem with my gear shifter. When shifting gear it will not return to normal position for next shift action. For example when shifting down from 3rd to 2nd I have to first move the shifter up a little into postion before being able to make the shift. I think maybe it is the torsion spring on the shift axle that is broken? If this is the case - how to replace it?

You have to pull the clutch cover and possibly the clutch to get it out.
The spring may still be available from Yamaha.

I would suggest that you dismantle and clean your shift lever pivot and then lube it with a good light grease.
If I disagree with everyone, that doesn't make me right. If I take the side of only one, it doesn't end the fight. If my position's strong enough from exposure to the light, you may see things my way when we share the same highway.

This problem can also happen when the clutch cover has been fitted without the gasket and just sealant has been used.

It needs the thickness of the gasket to have the correct clearance.

The spring was broken. So now it's replaced. But I broke the lock washer ( 90215-22244 ) for the clutch basket nut ( 90170-20323 ). Have tried to find one on ebay and at Yambits, but no luck....

Any ideas where I can find one?

Problem solved with black silicone gasket. The o-rings alone will not do the job of sealing.
I guess the water jacket is worn?
