Stiff Clutch Operation

#1 Post by Ade SYM » Wed Jul 27, 2016 9:52 am

Hi

Got an issue with the clutch functionality on the RD500.

When I operate the clutch lever it is fairly hard to do so and not as smooth as you would expect.

Checked the routing of the cable
Lubricated both the cable and the clutch mechanism in the side casing
Removed the push rod and checked to ensure it was straight and the ball bearing, also lubricated

Could it be the clutch it self as the engine has just been rebuilt - Maybe the springs?

As yet there has been not oil put in the engine so the clutch plates will not have been lubricated?

I am now stuck for anything else it may be?

Would be pleased to hear of any possible things you may believe it could be.

Many Thanks

Ade

I just rebuilt my TZR clutch and found the same thing. I think you'll notice it get better with oil and some use.

the clutch basket nice and smooth where the clutch plates sit?

I know some people fit tz springs to stop it slipping, the downside is the clutch is stiff, im no expert but I have had the same trouble on other bikes
