Foul play (Choke plunges?)
Hi,
My RZ500 started to bog, needed clutch to drive away: So i changed the plugs.
Drove ca 5 miles, the same issue accured.
Another set of plugs didn't help. 2 pipes were smoking , other 2 less. After dismantling the bike i looked ad the choke, 2 cables were loose ,looked like the plungers don't go down to close the hole off.
Polished the plungers, greased them with 2 stroke oil: Didn't help. Cables greased, nothing. Cables are going easy, maybe wrong routing? If i pull at these cables a little, sometimes it goes all the way (looking at the choke lever side).
Tried something drastic: Installed an extra spring, that allso didn't help.
Am i starting to get nuts or doing something wrong?
The right side was the first issue, at last you can see 2 above and the left down cilinder.
Thanks for help in forward,
Richard

Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
The 4 cables are all different lengths. Do you have the correct 4 cables and are they in the correct positions?
Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
I have the correct cables, that's for sure.
If they have the right routing: I don't know what the routing should be: Cables for the right side carbs are under the "thermostat" housing, above the sparkplugs of the upper cilinders.
Or should they run over the water hose, just narrow under the frame?
Pic of right side of engine:
Pic choke lever side
Length: Longest one is now on the right down, second longest on the right upper one.
Thanks for help,
Richard

Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
Okay, choke plunger problems solved: Only one was sticky. The other one looks like it didn't go in all the way, but measured cable length and depth of plunger hole, cable is longer then the movement of this plunger.
Cable routing is solved by pics on the net.
Problem solved then? No, at least one carb gives too much juice, next step will be ultrasonic cleaning the carbs. Maybe tomorrow...
Thanks Silverstorm for the reply!

Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
Hi , try loose the choke assy from the airfilter and drive a while like that see if it improves, also renew the airfilter,

Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
I drove without the choke lever on the airfilter housing, didn't help.
What could be the issue with the air filter?

Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
After long time they fall apart and got sucked into the carbs and engine , and block the airholes in the carbs or else
they re too dirty, wet that it ll richen the mixture

Makes sense, i'll look in to it.
Bedankt voor je info, maar deze luchtfllter zit er nog maar een jaar in, maar ga toch ff kijken.

It starts to bog from start riding or after a while ?

Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
Was working today on my rd , thought again about ur problem , so it s 2 cilinders that work lesser
so u need to search something that the barrels have in common like ignitian coil etc , since they all 4have chole
plungers u can rule that out

Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
Bogging starts when the engine was getting on temperature, but
Solution:
1 Float level: Out of range, done.
Checked the pilot jets: 3 were closed, opened them, done. Idle speed must be adjusted, was 3000 rpm...
I'm getting handy with carbs, don't need to get the carbs completely off to do it
Drove the bike, not 100 %, but 150% better then before. Checked the pilot air jets, one was closed, opened them: Done.
To be sure, i did some carb cleaner in the gasoline, haven't tried it, but i'm pretty sure it's okay now
Honoustly: My NS400R is more reliable then the RZ...

Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
do you have inline filters to save the pilots from getting blocked?
She might not be pretty but always a fun ride !!
Re: Foul play (Choke plunges?)
No, i have no extra filter installed.
What causes this problem i can only guess.
Could it be some paint what came in the fuel tank?
Could it be some rubber parts out of the new fuel lines?
Could it be some oxidation after ultrasoned the carbs?
Fuel? (Ron 98 is hard to get, using V power that has Ron 97)?
