I think everyone here knows it... Silicone (I guess "Dirko HT") was the best friend of the previous owner.
Glad that the NS400R got a new engine and the only 2 areas where he used this sh*t are clutch cover and exhaust gaskets - not too bad to get it away with the finger and a lot of time.
But I got the original engine in overall good condition, only with one damaged crankshaft main beraing.
BUT EVERYWHERE THIS STUPID SILICONE, even on the outside surfaces of the cylinders.
Has somebody here experience how i can remove this silicone?
would be ok to destroy the engine paint...
Edit: I don`t have experience with this stuff. I`m just using it in very small amounts in the areas where it should be used

Re: Removing sealing silicone
Try to peel it off, you could allso use nail polish remover or Thinner ( use it wisely though, agressive to paint).

Re: Removing sealing silicone
I use Scotchbrite pads. Grey (fine) will do the job nicely.
Re: Removing sealing silicone
I scratch it off with a fingernail and rough cloth.
Sometimes a bit of ethanol or brake cleaner helps.
In very hard cases steel wool extra fine helps (https://www.idealclean.de/rakso-stahlwo ... oCBZ7w_wcB" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
Next time use the grey Dirko , that's much easier to remove and you only need that HT pest on the head and exhaust flanges.

Re: Removing sealing silicone
No experience with some chemical stuff here?
I hate scratching off old seals
As said, I don`t use silicone on my engines, only in areas where it is needed (crankcases or small areas where cables go thru covers or at the half moon seal edges of 4-stroke head covers).
None of my bikes is leaking.
I`m using ThreeBond 1215, Yamaha Part No. 9089085505 or also available from Ducati dealers.
You can`t see on my engines if they were already opened or not.
Tried to scratch the red stuff off in a small area - seems that the surface was full of oil when it was applied, was quite easy to remove.
Engine paint quality of the Honda parts is also much better and smoother than Yamaha.
Hope its like this everywhere.

Re: Removing sealing silicone
fine grey scotch brite pad and acetone will get it off but will also remove the paint if used to excess.
She might not be pretty but always a fun ride !!
