Asking advice prior to rz500 purchase

#1 Post by thumper580 » Thu Jul 13, 2017 4:25 pm

I'm looking at a 1984 RZ500LC to buy. Overall condition is clean and it runs based on video. Has 19000 miles on the clock.

Any big issues with this bike I need to be aware of???? mechanical, electrical, etc. Thanks guys.

IT's a 33 year old bike. Everything is a potential issue.

19000 miles without a rebuild?

Has the bike in been in storage? Storage kills crank seals.

Do you know the seller? Do you know the bike's history?

As with any bike purchase, hope for the best and plan for the worst.

As a person who has bought, sold and serviced RZ500's since 1989, I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the bike by phone. I can be reached at (828) 777-4076 here in the Asheville area.

If I disagree with everyone, that doesn't make me right. If I take the side of only one, it doesn't end the fight. If my position's strong enough from exposure to the light, you may see things my way when we share the same highway.

Very true, my poor running has just been diagnosed as crank seals, it had been sat for quite some time by the look of it but I did know it may be possible when I looked at the mileage/use, I still would have bought it anyway!
