Seal replacement

#1 Post by thumper580 » Tue Jul 25, 2017 4:28 pm

I know the perfect way to do it but.....
Can the shift shaft seal and the output shaft seal be successfully replaced without taking the engine apart?

No

But if you don`t open the head nuts and remove the cylinders as a set together with the head you can avoid to buy new head gaskets.
Base gaskets can be reused if you want (rubber seals) and upper/lower crankcase is sealed with silicone.
Maybe it`s also possible to leave the rear cylinders assembled to the crankcase.
Front cylinders need to be removed because there are some hidden bolts.

Or was it the other way around?...

You only need a new clutch cover gasket.

Sorry, did not read careful enough...
Crankshaft seals => not possible

Shift shaft and output shnaft seal can be changed.
This is the professional tool for this work:

I have done this work on my RD350, there I used a screw for wood (with the tip grinded down a bit), drilled a hole into the metal part of the seal and turned the screw in.
Then you can pull on the screw and get the seal out.
