Quick Question on fitting Jim Lomas pipes
Hi Everyone
I'm just fitting a new set of lomas pipes to my RZV500R and the thickness of exhaust flange / mountings differ from original pipes. The fitting kit does not include any new bolts to accommodate new flanges, so the only way ahead seems to space out the distance with washers or remove the standard exhaust flange mounting studs and replace with bolts. Anyone else some across this niggling little problem? Thanks!

Thanks Andy. Sounds like you might be fitting some JLs? I just found out from the UK supplier / agent that the spacers were missing in fitting kit - so just need to source the same spec spacers and that should be it! If you are fitting some JLs yourself, hope the spacers are included! Thanks again.

Not sure exactly what you are trying to describe here. I just fit a set this last weekend. The manifolds flange is thinner than the OEM. It required using a few washers under the nuts to keep the nut from bottoming out on the threads. No other changes were required to fit the manifolds.
I was very disappointed with the fitment of the upper pipes however. The rubber dampers provided do not provide adequate support for the weight of the pipes. I was required to make new dampers and then slot the 'L' bracket holes to let me space each pipe away from the frame.

Spot on! When I fitted my Lomas pipes I modified the rear frame to make the pipes fit as they should. The stock Lomas solution is crap.WVWRZ500N wrote:... Before I fitted the JL pipes I removed all the exhaust fixing studs and replaced them, I made new fixing studs 5mm shorter from threaded bar and no centre shoulder to stop the nut from clamping the thinner exhaust flange, no spacers or junk just engineering.
I also had a problem securing the rear of the upper pipes, all the years JL has been making these pipes they cannot get it right?

I just fitted my pipes and had the same problems. No spacers but washers fixed the flange issue BUT upper RH pipe hits the frame. I tried to bend the bracket that holds the front of the side panel in place but still not enough room. Now the side panel won't even go close to fitting. Such a shame they can't get it right. I sent jim an email tonight, lets see if they respond with a reasonable solution.

Also no spacers included for the spigot studs so I used a bunch of washers. Motor is undergoing overhaul so now the time to install shorter studs...

I take it you had to bash the pipe with a hammer to make enough clearance.

Exactly... I had that very discussion with someone at a well known shop Monday. I was looking at Jolly Moto pipes on an RZ500 there and the fit is perfect. Tucked in to the frame, very secure and not flopping about and hitting panels like the Lomas pipes can do. I'll be putting Jolly Moto on my upcoming RZ500 build. I have used Lomas pipes for 350 builds, but switched to Jolly Moto for the last build. Night and day difference.

smokamoto I had JollyMoto and Lomas on my NS400R and my RZ350. I'm very happy with the performance of Brian's pipes with my NS400R and RZ350.
