Hi John,

Did you already see one of the crank webs from Yambits?
If they are not TZR250 webs I would like to buy them and give them to our measurement technican to put it onto the 3D measuring machine.

Also PJME shows a picture of "wrong" crank webs for the 500.
http://www.pjme.co.uk/acatalog/Yamaha_R ... _End_.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you look at the backside (other side than the crank pin) there is a machined ring.
In case of a TZR250 crankshaft this ring is smaller than the diameter of the web, RD500 => ring has the same outer diameter as the crank web.

I think the TZR parts will fit and that`s the reason why they sell it like this.
Would be too expensive to manufacture outer webs for the 500 as there are 3 different types, so they only sell the "recycled" center parts.
For me this is simply wrong...
Send them an email and ask them about the cranks. They typically reply in 1 day. I see no difference in the center sections of RZ500 and early TZR250 cranks. The part numbers are different by prefix, 47X vs 1KT. I have both Yamaha cranks here and have never really paid much attention to it.
John,

I think you missed the point of the Yamaha part number system. The prefix denotes the model and thus in most, not all, cases specifies it to be specific to that model. The 10 digit part numbers, (93104-25106-00) are 99.99% of the time generic and used on multiple models. While the prefixed numbers, (47X-15604-01-00), not only describe the part itself but also the model to which it is produced specifically for.

The centers being sold by Yambits for the 500s use a solid pin rather than the hollow pin on the OEM cranks. The flyweights are also cast/forged in a slightly different mold and the machining is also slightly different. They have the correct tolerances to work on the 500 and thus are sold so. However, they are not the same mass for sure. Quality is very good but I am leery of the overall difference the mass and shape may cause with the balance when assembled.

I understand Bill. It's just the way I wrote it. I said I see no difference, but the prefixes are different. Most people here know what that means. I also said to email Yambits to ask.

I forgot the solid pin... This was the reason why I changed my mind from using Yambits parts to refurbished old parts.

Anyway... I think I will have the possibility to get one part without shipping costs.
I will measure it, put it into CAD and check weight, inertia etc.
Maybe it`s possible to simply drill a hole into the pin to get it right.

But back to the topic, I would be interested in good quality and correct shape inner webs only.
I want to rebuild the crankshafts by my own - only because I want to learn to do it :smt003
That`s why buying finished parts is not an option for me.

I'm going with Bill, check the balance factor, Yamaha is not in the crankshaft, piston or gasket or any other parts for that matter business, if a 47X crank would work as a 1KT I believe Yamaha would have used it, if nothing else the saving on tooling alone would warrant not having another crankshaft built, if engineering can get another part to work the engineer probably gets a trip to Disneyland.

Part Number in the format XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX

XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX
The first three digits are the Model Code (every model in the Yamaha Product Line has a unique model number) all parts are given a Model Code of the first model they were used on.

XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX
The middle five digits are the Basic Code number and indicates the actual part, i.e. 11631 = piston; 11311 = cylinder, etc.

"W" substituted in the first position of this five-digit group (000-W0000-00-00) indicates a factory assembled kit which differs in content from the original assembly used in production (i.e. 2M0-W0046-00-00 – Rear Brake Pad assembly).

XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX
The next two digits are the Design Code and Design Change digits (so 01 means the part has had one design change). This part may or may not appear different, but it will be interchangeable with the original part.

XXX-XXXXX-XX-XX
The last two digits are the Color or Finish Code.

For a Part Number in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XX

These are Hardware (fasteners). they all start with a '9' and end in '00'. - 9XXXX-XXXXX-00

9XXXX-XXXXX-00
The second and third digits tells us what type of fastener:

0 - 'various'
1 - bolts, cotter pins
2 - screws, nuts
3 - oil seals, O-rings, bearings
4 - spark plugs
5 - bolts, nuts
6 - ISO bolts
7 - ISO screws and nuts

9XXXX-XXXXX-00
The fourth and fifth digits tell us what material/surface finish (i.e. chromed).

9XXXX-XXXXX-00
Digits six and seven give the diameter (inner or outer) e.g. 08 would be an M8 size.

9XXXX-XXXXX-00
Digits eight, nine and ten are the length (except for '901' bolts for some reason)
There are also standard fastener types...e.g.
90105-XXXXX are Washer based bolts
90116-XXXXX are Studs
90401-XXXXX are Union bolts

99999-XXXXX means that a part has been superseded by a kit.

Rather than type on my own, I copied this from:

I logged on to find any new info about the RZ crankshafts and added the part number info. Is new info about the cranks out there and being missed by me?

Thanks, Frank

Never got a trip to Disneyland up to now :smt010

But you are right, especially Yamaha loves to reuse parts in different bikes as far as they can.
You can see it if you are familiar with the XTZ/TDM/TDR enines - built as 750, 850 and 900ccm version with a lot of differences, but you can exchange most of the internals over 20 years where the engines are built.

Same for the Yamaha R1 engine RN01-09.

But it doesnt`t mean that the 1KT crankshaft will not work.
I`m sure the engine will run, but you might have some different vibrations to the original crankshafts or looking to the solid crankpins more weight and rotating mass.
The RD500 crankshafts are anyway heavy and the engine has a lot of rotating mass - adding more would make the bike even more "unsporty" than it already is.
Maybe this was enough reason for Yamaha to make a completely different crankshaft for the RD500.
Somewhere was an interview with a Yamaha engineer who worked on the 500 project and he said it was a nice project because money wasn`t the key factor.
You can see it on every edge of the bike like the carburetors... No cheap mass production bike will use carburetors with (If I remember right) 4 different body`s (different casting - incredible expensive for such a small number of bikes which has been produced)

I have a yambits web on one of my cranks as one of the pins was pitted

I got the pin drilled . not a very easy task . but by the end it was the same weight as the stock web

Driveline Performance is where they are going, same place we make the Billit heads and other stuff, we are close to getting all new piston kits that will match OEM cutaway up front windows in the rear, and other parts as well, I believe within 2 weeks

Now showing as $499.95 each on the website and no mention of including a seal kit. Is that correct, or will it be $450 through the forum and it will include the seal kit?
