DIY gasket

#1 Post by franco » Sat Jul 14, 2018 10:54 am

Hi...
On some air-cooled bikes I am experiencing succesful use of diy gasket, which I cut from sheets of gasket paper; they are good, inexpensive and quick to create. And playing with thicknesses there is a good basis for trying with port timing and compression ratio. On these air-cooled engines they definitely keep the pressure inside under heads and keep air out under cylinders.

I used them for RD basement-to-cylinder too, good results.

Now, question; if I try diy gaskets for RD heads?
I do not know.
I wonder if the seal between water passages will stand repeated cycles warm up / cool down. I wonder I I'd have be compelled to check head bolts torque too often.

Any point of view?

I'm sure it wouldn't last long against the heat, pressure and water of a cylinder head.
