Exhausts De-restrict.RZV500R

#1 Post by PJ » Mon Dec 14, 2009 8:47 pm

Sorry if this has been asked before,

My RZV500 that I intend to de-restrict, I believe needs collars which are in the exhausts to be removed. Two questions
Where are these collars are located in the exhaust pipes.
Can they be removed with out damage to the exhaust as I do not want to have to cut pipes to remove.
Thanks
Pat

Plenty of info on this if you do a search.

..... or I could do it for you

http://www.rzrd500.com/500phpBB3/viewto ... =rzv#29363

It does not look like you can remove them without cutting the collars off the pipes.
You might be able to grind the welds off from the end of the pipe, but the pipe insert looks like it needs to come out towards the rear of the pipe.

I robbed these pics from jackson.40

unless you can get your hands on a second hand set of pipes of an RD/RZ. you have to do the jetting on the carbs aswell. again, plenty info on here about that.

Hey Pat, I am looking to get a set of Jolly Moto pipes in the new year so I could do you a deal for mine if interested?
There are no marks/dents on them , and I have Swarbrick alloy end cans fitted to them.
If interested give me a call, think you have my number.
Have a good x-mas. Paul

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the feedback, I intend to remove the ehxausts during the Xmas holidays and I will let you know the update.
Paul thanks for the offer and I would be interested, I,ll give you a call to discuss as I also had intended to buy after market pipes rather than tamper with the originals.

Regards
Pat.

Hi All,
Happy new to everybody.....I worked on the removal of the collars over Xmas hoildays, They are held in by 3 spot welds which I had to grind off, a nasty job but the collars do come out and there is no need to cut the exhausts....Next job is jetting.
Regards
PJ

Hi all,

Got a debate going on another forum.

I’m aware that the 51X top pipes are restricted as the photos on this thread show.

Can anyone please confirm whether the 51X lower pipes were also restricted? Whereabouts and how were they restricted?

Cheers.
Gettin' kinda squirrely!

Yes the lower pipes are restricted the same way as the top pipes.

If you look at the last photo you will see the four restrictors which have been removed from the top and bottom pipes.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I saw the 4 restrictors but weren’t sure if that was two lots of upper pipe restrictors or not.

Agreed but there are some gems on there sometimes.

Someone on the site has found that a Ski-Doo coil HT plastic wire clip is the same as the rd/rz/rzv500 coil.

The only problem is they don't know the part number

I have it if anyone needs one.
