RD/RZ500 30th Anniversary Event - 2014

#1 Post by V4 Heaven » Thu Dec 13, 2012 9:52 am

Hi all,

I'm getting ahead of myself a bit but I was thinking the other day about the 30th anniversary of the RD/RZ500.

Would forum members fancy a mass get together of our bikes? Maybe get a magazine involved? Every bike from standard through to tricked up?

Stafford Show? Beaulieu? Motorcycle Museum Birmingham?

Maybe a lap or two of a racetrack with all of our bikes involved?

Aug/Sep 2014?

What are your thoughts?

Some parade laps at the Festival of 1000 bikes weekend 2014 at Mallory would be my suggestion if the organisers would allow it. Does anyone on this forum have any contacts?

Or an RD500 day at the Ace Cafe, although this isn't very central for everyone.

Maybe Donnington? Especially if there's another Yamaha Classics weekend in the august again like this year. Perfect event!

I like this idea - bang on theme too. I may write to the organisers of the Donington and Mallory events in the new year to register an interest, see what their thoughts are and see if they could fit us in to their programme of events.

I suggest maybe parade laps and static displays afterwards. Any bikes that want to attend but don't want to go on track could maybe used as a static display (viewable by but cordoned off from sticky mitts). Would check on security too, so that our bikes aren't used for spare parts. Even if I have to sleep next to them myself at night!

These are early suggestions though so I would still value all of your thoughts and ideas.

I had Motorcycle Mechanics phone me tonight and hinted to them about the event/gathering suggested on here, thought it would be great to get a magazines involved or at the very least plant a seed

Nice one. The more awareness and interest the better. Would be amazing if we could get 20-25 of us together! The more the merrier.

Would it be better if we could sort something out without magazines/journalist taking it over?.

Very true Steve and I agree mate, my suggestion was more for capturing the event for us and all and not for them to organise as this credit should go to V4 Heaven and everyone else that will make this happen

I just suggested it would make a good article :smt023
