Brake fluid

#1 Post by Jarrettvp » Mon Sep 04, 2017 6:38 pm

Anyone got any tips for the best brake fluid to use? I'm about to start bleeding the brakes after stripping them and rebuilding them.

Cheers.

Any quality brand DOT 4 will do. The same as DOT 3, as indicated on the reservoir caps, but a higher boiling point.

If the system is new and has never seen brake fluid you can use DOT 5. I have used DOT 5 and like it because it doesn't eat paint. It's pricey. You definitely don't want DOT 5 touching DOT 3 or DOT 4.

DOT 5.1 is fine to use where 3 or 4 have been used. It's slightly higher spec but will strip paint.
