RZ500 battery

#1 Post by kpke » Sun Oct 02, 2011 11:50 am

I have been using the sealed batteries in my 350s with great success. The type that can be layed down, upside down, etc.

Before that the last one I bought was called sealed altho it arrived with acid that had to be installed, then put the caps on. This did not seem "sealed" to me. It leaked acid less than a year later out of a factory seem. Fortunately it was on my beater as it did do some damage to paint and the alu toomey battery box.

Today I want to dummy up a battery box/holder of some sort to mount a battery in the rear.

So the questions.

What is the smallest battery you can get away with on the 500? Or do you need the same rating as the original?

And another, what have you used/installed on yours?

Thanks!!!

There is a company which sells a gel cell replacement, to fit our bike, same amp hour rating also.
Cheap too, less than $40.00.
When I get home I'll look it up.
It fits in the battery box, but is shorter , and perhaps not as wide.

Hey Gary.
Any luck with finding the info on that gel battery?

Thanks,
Dave.

This is what my bike runs:

Of course my bike is super minimalist - I used LED replacement bulbs for the tail and head lights.

You can see the battery on the right zip-tied to the frame.

Thanks RC45!
My bike is track only and will not have lights at all so this may be an option for me?
I'll investigate.

Thanks again,

Dave.

If your running a track bike you don"t need a battery at all.

Sorry to keep you waiting Dave
I'm not at my home computer, But I do believe that this is the battery I told you about. Will confirm when I get home.

I think it's a bit smaller than the original.

Not The Woose... you're dead right of course and currently my project (which hasn't even fired yet) is fitted with a battery eliminator however, I've heard varying stories of disasters to cdi's and other electrical gubbins that have stemmed from eliminators and I'm now toying with the idea of a light gel'battery (or even some kind of total loss system) just to act as insurance of sorts...if that makes any sense? What do you think? Would you be happy with just a battery eliminator? I'd appreciate your views...I'm open to any ideas right now.

That's cool Gary. Much appreciated mate!

Dave.
