help needed..!

#1 Post by alan child » Wed Feb 22, 2012 4:23 pm

hi all,i have a problem, just rebuilt my engine new cranks, rebores pistons etc, tryed fireing it up but ive got no spark, ive got new coils, plugs, caps, leads and the stator been rewound, and all the readings were good,so i thought cdi is the problem so ordered a new cdi which arrived today wired it up and guess what still no bloody spark.ive had a llok at the wireing but its hard to see when its all taped up,ive checked the kill switch to..!would there be something i didnt do right when putting the engine back together, all the punch marks allined,(weather that would matter for sparking) iam propper lost here and nearly lost all me hair too... :smt119 any suggestions would be very helpfull :???:

Alan, I'm no electrical expert but have you checked the stator pick up / connection.

I think this generates the pulse to activate the circuit to spark.

Even though you have some new stuff I would run through the checks in the manual for the ignition circuit.

Can't remember if the neutral switch affects the ability to start (eg has to be in neutral to start)

I'm assuming you have a multimeter

Cheers

Pete

Alan.

Not sure how the manual says to check the pick up coil. Does it involve rotating the stator and seeing there's a change in readings when it comes past the pick up point?

no not at all, just wanted to make sure that in the heat of the battle something simple did not get overlooked, like a good ground etc.

Hi Alan

It might be a long shot, but can you get your hands on a scope meter? Because you can then check the pulses going into the low voltage side of the HT coils. and it they're good, you only need to check HT leads, supressor caps and plugs. If the pulses are not there, look again at the CDI (assuming the pick-up coil pulses are getting to the CDI box)

Is it no spark on ALL 4 plugs???
