Flywheel and Generator

#1 Post by chris » Mon Feb 27, 2012 5:31 am

Is there any difference on the Rd-Rz 350 flywheel, generator and ignition?

I heard from a breaker that the 1985 he had was different.

Does anyone know?

On the RD350, the 84, 85, and 86-90 are all different. Each has a different stator and flywheel. You can use and mix parts from different years, but it has to be done right as some combinations will not work. I just put an entire 85 RD350 ignition into an 84 RD350. There are some wiring issues to work around, but it works. One thing to keep in mind is that an 84 RD350 CDI will only work with the 84 ignition. That means if you install an 85 CDI in an 84, you have to change the stator and flywheel too.

Your pic looks to be an 84 RD350 flywheel, even though someone marked it as an 85. Is it stamped 29L-50 or 51L-50. I'm guessing it's an 1984 29L-50 because the 1985 51L-50 flywheel usually has smaller slots. Can't see enough of the stator to tell what year it is.

I posted more about RD350 electrical component swaps over on the 350 site http://www.rzrd500.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... rical+swap

Feel free to PM questions if you have any.
