RD 500 1GE running on 2

#1 Post by jante350 » Tue May 01, 2012 8:08 am

My RD500 started to loose out on some pots during heavy rain, and it has got worse down to the fact now that its just running on two pots.

Upper left and bottom right. These doesn't share the coil, so I think this is ok, am I right in thinking maybe the CDI unit or stator windings? Is it two pickups in there to signal the CDI?

What checks have you done ?
need more info

have you swapped plug caps over and run bike to see if its a spark issue ?
are the ht leads attached to the correct plugs
are the ht leads earthing out
what condition are the plugs wet etc

lots and lots of things, eliminate the simple first
tell us more

Swapped plug caps over, problem exist on same barrel.
Plugs are wet on the cold pots. It will run intermittently on all 4 when driving, so deffo an electrical problem, cause its on and off very abrupt, and when it runs on all four it pulls very hard.

When left on idle the upper left and bottom right is cold, and the other two are warm.

New plugs in didnt help, new plug caps didnt help, new ht leads didnt help.

Does these coils provide + on one pot and - on the other (and ground in serie through the head) like on the late 350s?

choke plungers... are they closing correctly.... could be causing a rich condition.... or second jets blocked on the carb that is feeding the cylinder in question.....

what cylinder is not operating...
