Help/input-- rectifier/regulator

#1 Post by Blowin smoke » Sun Aug 05, 2012 11:24 pm

Rz500 not charging- new battery/ connections are tight and clean.
12.2 at battery at idle 12.6 at battery at 4k rpm
Tested stator coil 0.5 at 85 air temp.
So if I did everything right then the diagnosis is a new rectifier/ regulator correct??
Now the confusing part, get online type in The part no. 47x-81960-A3 And the price ranges from $28 to $99 ?? So which one should I order ?
Input is greatly appreciated! did I test right? Did I screw up the test?
Is there a fuse I dont know about?

Thanks

Marc.......

As long as the part number is right, you should be fine with any of them.

Take your old reg/rect along with you so you can test them back to back.

Good idea but so far everyplace I've called will need to order it. That means pay 1st and cross your fingers you got a good one! No warranty on electrical parts! I did not know they could test the part alone out of the bike?

you need a multimeter with diode symbol to test the unit seperated from the loom , you ll find 6 diodes (measures between 400-700 mV), but usualy the regulator is blown (measured between 4th wire and case)

when testing on battery it will give you a certain value around 13-14V at idle , when rising to 5000rpm this value will rise a bit and then stop and certainly will not rise any higher then 15v .(then regulator is ok)
I think your test indicates that ur rectifier is ok .All rectifiers need to conduct heat threw the frame , so be sure to use conducting pasta onto the screws and behind the rectifiers back , otherwise it will be screwed again, no oil please (does not conduct heat)

most TZRs use the same rectfier also
