Very belated update - after telling me it was all my fault, wiring on the bike was defective etc despite my testing the electrex world cdi on another bike with identical results, the manufacturer suggested swopping the green & red wire which did the trick, all now working as normal. I'm not that happy with the experience, the hassle could have been avoided by going to.someone who's not using me as a testbed but it all turned out ok in the end. All I have to do now is take the whole tackle out for a good clearing of the pipes, the smoke on the 1st ride made newastle look like Aleppo. Cheers to all who took an interest :D
