stuttering engine and plugs

#1 Post by pstamper » Tue Dec 04, 2012 8:12 pm

Took bike out a few weeks ago and ran fine most of the day. Silky smooth at 4,500 to 5,000 rpms. On way home started to stutter. Could feel it in the hand grips. Did not notice unusual amount of smoke. Made it to highway and it ran OK for a minute or so and started an erratic miss again. Have a controller from other bike was going to try. Is there one version that is better? I think the one I have came with the other bike I bought. The plugs look fuel washed except for front right which looks dark like first picture of plugs just wet.
From my other bike from back, hot rodding they burn a dark tan

Plugs

#2 Post by Alan_Kiwi » Tue Dec 04, 2012 10:09 pm

Hi there, I had a similar episode about 6 months back. One of the leads to one of the plugs was worn (loose), where the HT cap screws into the lead. I cut off about half an inch from the ends of each lead, scewed the caps back on and changed to NGK Iridium plugs, bike has run without a miss, and smooth ever since. Alan
