water temp sensor
Is thread sealer used when installing the water temperature sensor in to the pipe assembly on the upper cylinder head?
The reason for the question is I need to remove the stock one and install the sensor that came with the KOSO meter assy. It appears that the threads on the KOSO sensor might be that same as the stock unit. I hope an adapter is not required.
Thanks!
Update already.
I removed the stock sensor. It definitely had thread sealant.
But, damn it, the stock sensor is a tapered pipe thread and the KOSO is not tapered. The KOSO sensor will start threading in but clearly I need a "solution" here. Help please.
So the question now is, how do I get the non-tapered sensor in to the tapered threads?
The assembly as received
The water temp sensors. You can see some sealant on the stock one.

Re: water temp sensor
Thanks for the reply.
I will probably try the plumbers tape.
The KOSO sender has about 1/4" of threads.
Thread pitch is the same and I am able to get it to thread about half way in.
So another brilliant idea I thought of is to slightly taper the KOSO sender to get it to thread in more.
Copper washer will not help as it does not bottom out when threaded in.

Re: water temp sensor
does it say on the box that the new one is 1/8 npt ?
because there is another 1/8 thread that is very close and they look the same and do screw in

Re: water temp sensor
Let us know how the unit works after complete. I have been looking at that tachometer set up. Good luck and be careful. Is there any way to install a tee in the water line with a proper female adapter. I would not trust just a few threads holding it securely.
Re: water temp sensor
I will let you know. Good idea on the adapter but I would be concerned that the sensor would not read properly due to getting further away.
Have not worked on the "project" for a while due to life getting in the way.
But hopefully by spring time I can fire it up

Re: water temp sensor
There is an adapter on their site. I would have to see were the OEM is located. I would be careful not to mess the threads up.

Re: water temp sensor
From my experience taper pipe threads are only tapered on the male thread, the fitting on the cylinder head should be parallel thread so as nzminis says just wrap some ptfe tape around it and wind it in.
If only there was more free time.
Re: water temp sensor
Hi kpke i have a koso gauge, my sender is made out of alloy looks the same though.
I just screwed it in till it was firm no leaks.
Hope this helps,
Cheers Ron
