RZ500 gauges meter
Can the faces be replaced with decals on the 500 gauges, I replaced the faded decals on my 350, Has anyone had any success doing this on the 500 as they are sealed...

Re: RZ500 gauges meter
Thanks Steve, I seen them and talked with the seller.
I'm wondering if anyone actually replaced them, How did they get into the gauge, they are a sealed unit, How would I remove the top ring and glass with damaging them

Re: RZ500 gauges meter
Just bend the rim up on the back and pull it off.
Try and get an old gauge to play with first.

Re: RZ500 gauges meter
Take your time and go slow. Remember it's an instrument and you aren't opening a tin can. Start by lifting the edge just a tiny bit, less than 1 mm. Use a very small thin blade, just a few mm wide, then go around and around increasing the opening slowly each time. Closing is just as frustrating. If you try to do it all at once it will make a mess, Go around and around closing it bit by bit. A small aluminum dowel makes a good tool for that task. I often use the handle of an exacto-knife.
I've done about 40 speedos and tachs. When I'm done it's hard to tell they were ever opened. It took quite a few to get to that level of success.
The best way to remove the needle is to use 2 spoons. One on each side of the needle and go very slow.

Re: RZ500 gauges meter
Food for thought depending on where you live, seal it up inside with the air conditioning on, or on a dry day. Trapping a bunch of humid air in there could make the glass cloudy on a cool day. (or maybe I'm just overthinking it!)

Re: RZ500 gauges meter
Lol...yes Russ, you might be over-thinking it just a tiny bit. The clocks have holes at the back for lighting and the speedo also has the trip meter knob, so they aren't totally sealed units. You've been working at Honda too longRuZty wrote:Food for thought depending on where you live, seal it up inside with the air conditioning on, or on a dry day. Re: RZ500 gauges meter
I did mine with decals from the UK, you have to peal the ring off the speedo and tach...it is a real job

Re: RZ500 gauges meter
I have done this a few times and found that the best tool to use is a paint can opener, it has the perfect bend and is not sharp, get it started a little with a screwdriver then get the paint can opener under it and just start working your way around.
Putting it back I usually use hardwood to get it started working my way around and then a press is handy with a piece of wood cut to fit around the gauge, but can be done in a vise or just work at it lightly with a hammer and some wood.

Quick question for you.
I go the faces off, Thanks for the info.
How do I remove the little wheel/dial on the outside of the clock, the one for resetting the trip meter....
