No tachometer with Zeel cotrol

#1 Post by pstamper » Sun Feb 28, 2016 6:37 pm

Have older 3 box control CDI-RD500, VCDI-04, and PPV. Bike runs and all programmed and no tach. Installed old controllers and all worked. Help dyno day Wednesday. Thanks in advance.

What kind of tacho are you using? The original, or some other one?
I had trouble getting a good tacho signal from my Zeeltronic. It's still not perfect by any means.

I have tried using one of the coil leads and also tried tapping into the signal to the YPVS controller.

The CDI ought to have one yellow/green cable that holds the stock tach/PV signal.
Connect that to the black/yellow on the bike harness CDI connector (it'll end on the grey cable on the tach)

Check the wiring here: http://zeeltronic.com/page/vcdi-04.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Use the RZ350 YPVS diagram - the RD500 CDI should have two HT outputs that connect to the orange cables of the ignition coils.
(If you click the German manual, guess who helped Borut with testing the unit on his RZ and did the translation)

People on this forum successfully used a resistor inline of the connection CDI to tach.
http://rzrd500.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php ... t=Resistor" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Note that they're partly talking of different products (your CDI does not have a 12V square tach output)
Bye
Martin

It works. Connected to the orange to one of the coils and all good. So. So happy. Dyno results Wednesday.
