Short Circuit

Hi,

Centre fuse keeps blowing...

No Indicators / Flashers
No Brake Light
No Oil Level Warning
No Temperature Gauge
No Horn

Headlights , Pass light, Tail lights and YPVS System OK

I did a continuity test between the centre fuse and the frame and there is a circuit with the ignition on and off - No continuity on the Headlight and YPVS fuses to the frame.

I've put a new JMT AGM battery in - it reads 12.7V across the terminals.

I've looked for chafing / damaged wires but nothing obvious.

Any ideas how I could isolate the problem please ?

Hi.
Do you mean the main fuse near the battery or one of the 3 fuses in the box in the front frame ?

Hi,

It's the fuse box with 3 fuses and a spare in the front frame.

Ok.
So you must find where is your short-circuit after the signal fuse.
You'll have to unplug all components one by one after this fuse and perform at each time a continuity test as you did between signal fuse and frame.
Once you have no more continuity the last component you unplugged is at fault.
Re-plug all the others and perform also a continuity test just to verify that you have no other component at fault ....
If after having all unplugged you still have continuity, then you'll have to open the harness to check the brown wire after the signal fuse.

I assume that you have a 47X/1GE bike not from Germany, so you'll have 7 components to unplug :
brown wire on rear brake switch
one 6 plugs connector for right handlebar ( under the tank )
one 9 plugs connector for flasher relay ( near fuse box )
two 6 plugs connectors for meter assembly
brown connector on horn
one 6 plugs connector for flasher cancelling unit ( near horn on left side )
You must leave the 4 plugs connector of the fuse box plugged.

Depending on the results of these tests you'll have identified your faulty component.

It's a pleasure to help.
You are lucky, flasher cancelling is a nice function but you can live without ....
If you can't or don't want to replace it, you can easily bypass it.
You just have to remove the cancelling unit and plug the Yellow/Black wire coming from the flasher relay to the ground.
You'll find this wire near the cancelling unit under a rubber protection that has the shape of a bell near.
Your wire (male plug) is plugged into a Yellow/Green female plug and you'll find a free Black female plug.
Just unplug the Yellow/Green and plug the Black one.

That's how the bikes were fitted in Germany.

Thanks Philippe - luckily I had a spare canceller unit - will be useful information when these units are no longer available - I've had these units go unserviceable before - but never blowing fuses.
