No spark
Need some help please. Trying to get a spark from a 500 basket case job. Got power from magneto red wire. Got a faint glow on the test lamp on the green wire. No power from orange coil wires coming out of cdi Magneto or cdi duff ?
Re: No spark
I had same problem and cdi was duff
Although when I warm it up it works !!
I've done this about 20 times now so
I'm sure it's the cdi ?

Re: No spark
It would be good the show where the ground points are.

Re: No spark
Meter the stator as your starting point. Easy to do. Check resistance numbers. It's all in the manual.

Re: No spark
Hi thanks for the advice. Does anyone know how many earth points the loom has?

Also cant find any info on testing cdi in manual

Re: No spark
The earth point is on the battery bracket
If you have a latter bike there is an earth wire on the reg screw

Re: No spark
Sorry, I misled you. I should have written meter the stator first as that is when it all begins. You need the proper resistance values. If your stator is good you move on to other possibilities. Test everything and when you have nothing left but the CDI, you have your answer. Typical testing for the CDI means trying another CDI, unfortunately.Webs wrote:Also cant find any info on testing cdi in manual
The ignition and kill switch are also possibilities. Also the side stand switch, if it has one.
It can be a real challenge trying to resurrect a basket case with no known history. No spark issue can be simple, or very frustrating. Check all connectors, fuses, look for broken wires, etc.
You should put your location in your profile. You might find that help isn't far away.
