Thanks in advance for any recommendations on ignition coil replacement.... I see lots on eBay, are they OK to use?

Do you mean used RD500 coils or new aftermarket coils Richard? Used ones will be fine as long as they test within limits.

There are plenty of aftermarket coils available. It might be wise to avoid anything questionable and stick with a reputable manufacturer, like Dyna.

If it is used RD500 coils are you after I may have some here.

Why do dynatek dyna coils cost almost 10 times as much as one of these coils (for example); Can they be 10 times better? Can they even be 2 times better?

My own coils check out ok resistance wise but are a bit tired looking so was thinking of replacing them.
Any recommendations for plug wire??

I think you'd get exactly what you paid for. There is a reason quality is expensive.

I was just trying to figure out where the extra cost/quality in a coil is? For something like a coil that has no moving parts, if the resistances check out and it provides sufficient output volts, isn't that sufficient? Maybe it doesn't produce as strong a spark?? Is there a difference in the number of windings?

Consider this...you are paying 20 Pounds for it. It goes though production and a couple of wholesalers before you get it. The actual cost is likely about 5 Pounds. How much of that 5 Pounds goes into the windings? How much of that 5 Pounds goes into quality control and testing? I'd say most of that 5 Pounds goes into making it look like something it isn't. if you want quality spark, you need a quality coil. Car guys have known that forever. Bike guys seem slower to grasp that concept. How far do you think you'll get with a 5 Pound coil? When your bike is parked on the side of the road and you are walking home you'll be thinking about your 5 Pound coils and thinking about this conversation.

You should never be downgrading when replacing parts, especially electrical parts. If the most you can afford for a coil is 20 Pounds perhaps RD500 ownership is a bad decision.

In my limited experience in this hobby bargan bin parts are not really on the menu. Would they work, well maybe yes but why? I would put more faith in the grubby old stock coils than the new China ones any day. If the Dyna coils were 5% better and only 200 bucks I would consider that a bargain.
